Sennheiser Q&A: HDV 820 Digital Amplifier
Feb 1, 2022 at 11:37 PM Post #167 of 173
Senn told me that if the DAC is not needed, the sound quality between the HDVA 600 and the HDV 820 was the same. No reason to upgrade to the 820 unless the DAC is needed.
this is directly contradicted by a post ITT

The HDVA 600 and HDV 820 both have balanced amplifiers, but the HD[V] 820's amp section is a completely new design. The chassis is also smaller.
Maybe a rep had info the original HDVD 800 and the HDVA 600 had the same AMP section and conflated the HDV 820 and the HDVD 800, but I own the HDV 820 and have tried the HDVD 800 as well and it was clear to me they are different, both very fantastic but different.

I don't know if Sennheiser responds to this thread at all anymore but is it possible to play DSD512? I know the initial specs stated 256, which is fine, but was there an update or anything that might've enabled 512 or are we too limited by the DAC here? HDV900 soon lmao??

MPCK1967, it is definitely not possible to play DSD512 files which are by the way very rare. The most common sampling rate is 128 (x CD). An update to DSD512 would be like updating your tv set from Full HD to UHD:wink:

I'm aware of the rarity of DSD512, I wouldn't ask if I didn't have a reason as I own about 3 native DSD512 performances. An update to support DSD512 could absolutely be possible unless the DAC doesn't permit it. There are plenty of products that are restricted to a lower sample rate than their maximum and it could be for any reason like a software bug when playing higher sample rates. Fiio does this often, for example, and did it with their Q5s, K5 pro, K9pro, and M17 afaik.

Hello,
would anyone have an idea as to why I get sound dropouts when playing 192Khz songs from Qobuz through coax into my HDV820? 96Khz songs play just fine. I have checked all account settings in Qobuz and everything looks good. Anyone else had this happen? Thanks.

It’s more likely your source.

Try unplug your USB cable and use the supplied power cord.
