Shanling M2s Hi-Res DAP with AK4490 + MUSE8920, Bluetooth, & USB Out

@TheoS53 that did trick! There's a capital 'A' in the top right now. I assume it's 'A' for AptX, not AAC...
I'm using an Elecom LBT-PAR500. Since it's Elecom, might be a Japan only model, maybe?

It really looks as though theres no support for AAC over Bluetooth. This is a little gripey, but don't get me wrong, I lurrrve this little player. It's SO capable that i forget it's a little budget player and start to get a bit greedy! It's a testament to how good this player is, so please read these complaints as compliments. A convoluted contradiction, I know... Anybod else feel the same?

@Shanling can u confirm there's no support for AAC over Bluetooth?

Awesome, glad to hear that worked. I actually had a similar issue with my M2s when I reviewed the Fiio BTR1. But it took me all of 1 minute to sort it out..so no biggie.

You're right, the M2s is a phenomenal device for the price, which is why I bought one for myself in addition to the one provided by Shanling for a review.

Just noticed something strange. Not sure if this is an effect of the latest firmware as I haven't tested it out with previous versions....but when connected to an external DAC, the M2s can still change the volume. @Shanling shouldn't volume be disabled? Changing the Gain setting also results in a volume change

The same thing was noted in one of the Cayin threads with the latest Hiby firmwarre , I believe. Firmware bug.

Will look into this after we return to office after holidays.

Sorry, no AAC for bluetooth.

My wild guess is that the chipset doesn't support AAC over bluetooth, but only @Shanling can confirm that.

Hi , im very happy with my recent purchase but i have a little question about the shanling m2s:

almost 50% of the time that i turned on the player , the sd card is not recognized. I have to unplug it and plug it again to be read and start scaning for music again. Maybe its something with the settings that is causing this??

Greetings.

My best wishes for the new year Shanling. :)

I can confirm this issue.
My M2s (Firmware 3.10, upgraded from 3.0) will report there is no TF Card installed.
I have to remove and re-insert it to get it to work. It is a Samsung EVO Plus 64GB

Which is a bit annoying because my M2s is always in its cover.
Can you look into this issue please?

With both firmware 3.0 and 3.1 my auto off timer no longer works. It's set for 10 minutes and hours later it's still on. I'm currently using the modified 3.0 so I can have the bolder fonts. Why would they go with tiny and hair thin? Also, I went to take the M2s out of my bag and the wheel had fallen off. I was very hesitant to buy this in the first place because I saw that as a problem. Fortunately I was able force it back on. I can't say if it feels the same as before, because it isn't the sort of thing you pay attention to until it's too late. I have a couple 128GB cards that I use with it. One for single artist albums, the other for various artists. They are all Flacs. I've tried playing MP3's on it, but there is a perceptible gap between songs that has been there with every firmware since I got it with 1.2. Gapless playback works flawlessly with both Flacs and OGG Vorbis q10. Those are the only file types that I've tried. I do notice, however, that it cuts off the very smallest part of the first song, regardless of file format, and there is a very distinct click after the last song with every firmware I've tried. Also with firmware 3.x, when the screen is off I can hit the Play/Pause button and it will pause, like it's supposed to do, but when I hit the button again a minute or so later, it won't start playing again. I have to push the power button to turn the screen back on and THEN hit the button to un-pause it. Over all I like the sound of this, but I wouldn't get another one without a touch screen, or at least some kind of wheel guard and firmware that didn't have so many little problems. I'm thinking I'll go back to my Rockboxed iBasso DX50 for a while. The sound is a little brighter than I would like, but that thing plays like a dream. And I can always adjust the equalizer a little to get a smoother mid/upper bass.

Update: Installing the modified 2.2 firmware fixed the problem with the player not turning off.

@Shanling any new about this?? thanks

Thank you for reports, we must push HiBY to release fix for this immediately. Holidays are just ending in China, so hopefully next week I will get some update on this.

From firmware 3.0 auto shut down was replaced with standby mode. So after your set up 10 minutes, the player goes into deep sleep/ standby mode. So hours later, when you push power button, it woke up instantly, that's why it looks like it wasn't turned off.

I'm sorry to hear about the wheel, mechanical failures are quite rare, but can happen. I posted some information about it locking mechanism over in M3s thread, you can check it(it's same for M2s) https://www.head-fi.org/threads/sha...ut-now-with-opus.859241/page-87#post-13911154

Play/pause button, check for what time is your auto-standby set up, it might be one minute and your player already went to deep sleep mode before you pushed button to resume playback.

Cut off on first song, it's caused by delay of the audio circuit and is part of protection, it only happens with very first song after playback starts.

Thank you for clarifying that. It's good to know that people from Shanling actually read theses posts. Since you do, how about a few small requests. Bolder, larger fonts in the native firmware and an all black with all white text theme.

Hello,
I am currently using my m2s in this setting
[phone]---bluetooth---[m2s]---aux---[IEM]
to stream the music i'm playing on my phone to my headset which works perfectly. I want to use the same setting for phone calls as well, but whenever someone calls me the sound will come directly out of my phone instead of the m2s even though the two devices are paired and media playback is working.
I figured out that the problem is that i can only select "Media audio" in the Bluetooth connection menu on my phone and there is no checkbox for "Phone audio". Does that mean it is not possible at all to do that? Firmware on my m2s is 3.10.

Thanks in advance!
