I am considering purchasing a CIEM, specifically one I saw that is at a good price and local to me. Was wondering if the fitting a CIEM of someone else would be a possibility. I think I have a rather larger ear canals (IER-Z1R fitted well when I tried it). Just wondering if this would be a good idea because I don't want to show up, the CIEM doesn't fit at all and we both leave unsatisfied with the deal.

The CIEM is the UM mest mk1, I know I can get a replacement for universal but its really expensive.

U will likely need to reshell it, which will add to costs.

The fit doesn't only influence comfort, but also affects isolation and hence sub-bass. So using someone else's mould fitted CIEM is generally not a good idea as everyone has different ear anatomies.

hmmm yeah I heard that driver placement and all is fitted for that exact anatomy which is why I was pretty hesitant on the idea of getting the custom. Its at a good price but definitely not worth the reshell at that given price. Reshell is like $150 usd to universal iirc.

Thanks :)

Yep. Reshelling makes sense if you're buying second-hand CIEMs that were originally expensive. Then reshelling on top of that cost might still be way below their original retial price, but it is a bit of a hassle. Hope this helps!

Yep, in this case it wasn't priced low enough to have it reshelled and still be under retail. Just decided on a universal instead of an aftermarket custom

Yep, in most cases that's the right move that makes it easier to resell a product if you don't like it. Good luck!
