Should I buy the Philips SHP9500 for $120, wait, or get another pair of headphones?

Don't believe the hype. The SHP9500 is certainly not better than the HD 600. It's not even better than the HD 558.

The reason the SHP9500 is so expensive now is that Philips discontinued it. It was a pretty good value at $50, but at $120 it's a tough sell vs. similarly priced cans like the K612, AD900x, and HD 558/598, which are in a higher tier of sound quality.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the SHP9500 is nowhere near as good as the HD 650. (Haven't heard the HD 600.) However, Magick Man mentioned that with his modification, he got the SHP9500 to sound a lot like the $1,000 Koss ESP950!

The tonal signature is very similar but performance isn't as good (obviously).

Yeah, that's what I meant. Didn't mean identical performance.
