As you may know the XB line was discountinued and replaced by a new XB line which is much cheaper, and much worse. So currently,on Amazon a set of these babies is about $250. Normally these were $100 new. The cheapest used pair is $110. I currently have the ATH-Pro700 MK2's and I'm looking for another bassy set. Now these are at the top of my list because the other XB models are about $400,close to $500 now. There's also the DT770 but I just don't really like those.

Pro 700mk2 with an amp and a eq bass boost v.s. the 500 is a lateral move (being kind to Sony). I think the 700's hit harder. DT770 are not bassy. They have a warm sig and a slightly raised bass but not like the 700MK2 or XB500...IMO

No it's not worth it

I have an amp and EQ but I just don't like the bass. My Senn 558's can hit actually lower. Specs wise they don't,but to my ears they just have this very deep rumble the MK2's just don't have. Perhaps the Senns just have a more defined and detailed lower end.
