Where do you find replacement earpads for the K7XX for future repairs? I emailed AKG and they had absolutely no idea what I was talking about! They told me to contact JBL.

I imagine they are quite pricey if you can find them.

That is very funny! LOL! AKG told you to contact JBL? Maybe you got a newly hired customer rep? :)  Try calling them again. From what I have read the pads on the K7XX are the same pads found on the AKG K712.

The AKG Professional store people here at work didn't even know about this headphone, you have to ask for the K712 pads, they are the exact same. I'm willingly to bet whoever you talked to doesn't know it's an AKG HP so they thought it was JBL. Either way I think the 712 pads are about $70 or something.

Someone is selling replacement earpads on eBay. Seller seems legit, although I can't speak from experience. Link:http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=251942266979&alt=web

I've bought these before, they are not the original AKG OEM pads, although they are pretty decent copies. They are angled regular foam pads like how they are on Q701's and used to be on the K702's, though they are bit softer and less dense than the original OEM pads. Definitely not the memory foam pads like the K7XX/Annie/K712's however.

Hi PurpleCow-
I owned the HD598, sold it, then eventually upgraded to the K7XX. I can't say for sure if you'll get the "wow factor" you're looking for as the AKGs are much pickier about source. If you play high-quality files and run it through a good dac/amp, you MAY, but if you play it out of a phone, you definitely WON'T. The HD598 probably sound a touch better out of a phone.

I run FLAC and the Tidal streaming service through my Sound Blaster X7, to the K7XXs and it sounds really good, but this is my first proper dac/amp, so YMMV.

Mine gave me that feeling. Such thumpin bass from an open back AKG? Madness dare I say?

thanks for this, I'm not quite sure if going to the K7XX will give me the "wow" feeling compared to the 598

Hmm, I've been trying my K7XX through dac/amp (Nuforce Icon HDP) and through a few phones and while the sound is obviously a lot better with amp, I can very much enjoy the sound from phone output. Even up to a level of getting a "wow -factor" comparing to my ealier Beyerdynamic Custom One Pros. Especially listening to progressive/psy rock with wide soundstage and exciting guitars.
