The Beyerdynamic DT48 Arrives...

I would be curious as to where you found the following info "described as "Typ Nr III 48S", and their serial number starts with 68." I do have a serial
number inscribed on my DT-48A's which I bought as a teenager (I am now 75 years old, so that was a while ago.) But none of my other variations
of DT-48's have any type number or serial number on the actual phones.I have about 5 pairs of various versions of DT-48's and none of the others
(with the exception of the DT-48A's of course) have any type or serial numbers markings. And I see by your pictures that your set of DT-48S's don't
have any of this info marked on the phones themselves. So where did you get this information? Was it on the literature that came with the phones?
I am dying to know where this information came from!

It was on the warranty card that came with the headphones. I got everything except the original box (I assume there was one).
I've since replaced the grey pads with the new black ones, a clear improvement for me. I kept the original plugs and added a converter cable.

Most of you will think I'm crazy but I feel my dt48a has too much bass for my taste sometimes, which dt48 version has less bass while retaining the mids and treble?

Maybe not crazy but is there something wrong with your hearing perhaps? I will gladly swap mine for yours in a trade  Every single phone I own and have owned in the past has more bass presence than my dt48 which is totally mid centric. In some cases it's not even a close race....even with the fairly 'flat'/neutral hd580.

I find these more transparent and resolving than stax L700. If only these dt48a were open headphones.
Would love it even more.

DT 48 + DT 150 earpads are proving to be good combo. Much more comfortable than stock E version earpads. After taking that image, i made sealing lip from tape to make it seal better at jawline area. I have to experiment more with these to see if i would get even better bass extension.

How did you get those on there ? Did you use the base ring of the 48 pads?

Earpads are taped on top of stiff painting canvas. I used Dt 150 earpads as a template to draw the outline on that canvas. Then i glued them on place and (added after taking that image above) stuffed blutak string between driver capsule and base canvas for sealing .

Have you popped the backs off to compare and see how sound signature changes? I would be interested in knowing how they would sound compared to your 480 which doesn't have the backs on the driver.
:D

No i have not. I´m going to need special tool to get the backplate off from 48. So far 48 with these earpads has almost comparable bass impact and extension to DT 480. I´m going to put some vinyl on top of 150 earpads for improved seal. OG 480 earpads are some made from some sort of vinyl and it seals very well.

If you had to keep only one 480 or 48, which one you keep? :D

Also, anyone angle their pads? Seems it would provide better seal, what you think?
