Prime day is tonight/tomorrow. Any idea if there will be any sweet deals on headphones?
If you go to amazon.com and click on their banner on "Prime Day" at the top of the page, you can peruse the 7,528 items they promise Prime Day deals on. You can peruse them by topic (i.e., "Electronics" or "Musical Instruments") and you can set a watch notice on any item that is of interest, and you will presumably then be e-mailed when that item goes on special (that is, if you are an Amazon Prime member).

That said, I did not see any earth-shattering headphones... only two brands I recognized (Blustudio and MEE), and only one headphone from the former and one IEM from the latter.

However, who knows... maybe other deals will crop up.

I just ordered the Tate & Bauer cans, I'll try them out and let you guys know if they're any good.

I will defer to your far greater experience for a definitive judgment, but mine just arrived and overall I like them. A 15 minute listening shows competent sound with no glaring faults yet discovered.

An interesting back and forth comparison is with the Philips L2, another closed over ear can that is available on Woot for the same $85 shipped. The T&B high frequencies are to my ears equally or better defined, but less shouty on some recordings than the Philips. The frequency response on the T&B seems to be a bit flatter, less "fun" in both bass & treble. The Philips has better midrange and bass detail where the B&T can get a bit congested on complex stuff.

Comfort on both is quite good but for me the edge goes to the T&B because of lower clamp. The cups on the T&B are shallower, that could be an issue for some, but because of the low clamp they feel fine to me.

Appearance, they both look very nice, but the Philips has a definite edge in materials quality. The T&B wood cups look really nice as does the Stainless steel T&B logo plate. However, the struts and other headband parts that look aluminum in the photos are rather obvious plastic. The T&B headband is less padded and lacks the Philips classy stitching. From a build quality perspective I would be very disappointed had I spent $300. At $85 I will give them a longer listen because they have some very nice qualities. I see feedback on the Sharkk head-fi feedback thread some say they take over 100 hours to fully break in. Not sure I will give them that much listening.

Made a thread before seeing this thread. Was thinking there was a dedicated forum, which places have, specially to call out these deals. But here was my post.

Amazon has the brainwavz large earpads in all colors on sale for $13. Shipping free with Prime. You can add 1 of each color for the deal, but not more than 1 of the same color.

It is usually just the popular consumer brands. Bose, Beats, maybe some of the popular Amazon Sennheiser headphones like the 598C or new 598SR.

Beyerdynamic DT880 Premium 250 Ohm for $220 less 20% PrimeDay special. Nets out to $176.

Amusingly, 600 Ohm version is 182.50 (but not less 20%)

oops, too slow, Allanmarcus beat me to it
