Was using sound Unlocked for quite some time. Then the new Doc2008 NEW mega sound explosion V3/V4.......but, you really should give the following a try, really, really very good (yes headphone out) and in Docs statement:
"this firmware are similar to stock sound DX100". You might prefer sound Unlocked (FLAC only mode) or docs (I prefer Docs)

I haven't been following the thread much lately.

What is the most popular alternative firmware you guys are running and getting best results with?

Say for example I want to run a pair of IEM from headphone out.

I understand there's several firmwares, I want to know what is the most popular currently atm

Is this firmware the same as the Doc2008 3rd Edition?

nope (and there are a number of various different third editions), he seems to be digging pretty deep now and I admire the perseverance to get the very best out of the great DX-50, which he is.

All the firmwares are listed here:

Musicheaven, are you still modding this thread? If so could you possibly add this link to the first page?

So my DX50 lineout seems to be broken. Apparently there is some jiggling sound in the lineout when I plug my amp in and shake it a little bit whereas the headphone out is tightly secured. And I have to handedly adjust the lineout jack to hear the sound, otherwise it is dead silence. Do I get a full product replacement for it? I bought it from Amazon btw. And it has only been a month so I guess I got plenty of time for warranty.

Get in contact with amazon, see what your options are, they're pretty good, there's a good chance they may simply replace the unit.

All discrepancies and defects must be reported to us within 7 days from received date.
Ouch. I have just used the LO today only to find it broken. So much for 1 year warranty. I will try to contact the seller myself then. Will report later

Quick question guys, it has probably been asked a couple of times, but couldn't find it after quickly going through a few dozen pages of the thread. (Good thread btw)

For rather easy to drive IEM's (like IE80 or ER4P), would the DX50 provide a significant upgrade in sq as compared to an iPod Touch or just a different sound signiature? I don't really need to replace my source, but the Head-Fi itch is coming up again!

Damn the DX50 looks cool...

I'm following this thread for quit some time now but never had the time to register and reply. Now I do, so first of all I'd like to thank Dmitry for his wonderful work with Sound Unlocked. I really enjoyed his firmware over the last couple of months, but I have to say DOC2008 won me over with his latest firmware (the stock DX100 kind of firmware). It works even better for me. All my music is in ALAC, so the FLAC-setting of Dmitry wasn't working for me and when comparing DOC2008 latest firmware with Sound Unlocked 1.3.3 (All, IRR Off, CPU Default) DOC's firmware just sounds nicer to my ears. It's lively without sounding unnatural. My rock and metal albums are really shining with this.

So guys, keep up the good work and thanks for all your efforts.

Did I understood correctly that in Your opinion SU 1.3.3 sounds unnatural? If so, then I definitely disagree. For my ears it`s very natural. Maybe we just have different taste?
But You made me interested in this new DOC`s FW and I will try it out later. Which version exactly are You using ? Already confused with so many DOC`s versions, maybe share link?
All the previous DOC`s FW`s have been littlebit artificial and "coloured" sounding to me, especially compared with SU 1.3.3.
But I will try it out since already several ppl recommend it.
