I know it’s specialised, but here is a new home for all those Garrard, Lenco, Thorens (TD124) and Dual enthusiasts out there. Time to show off your plinth constructions and exchange tips on driving out the demon rumble!

Here’s my 1950s Garrard to start the ball rolling:

The hard work bringing my ancient ex-broadcast grease-bearing 301 back to life (better than new, frankly) was carried out by Ray Clark of the Classic Turntable Company. The plinth is by Acoustand (solid cherry with walnut veneer). Before the restoration, the deck looked like this:

The photographs still show the record weight which I am no longer using (it kept the record flat, but sucked the life out of the midrange), and the Shure V15-iv which is soon to be replaced by an AT440MLB, which appears (on paper, anyway) to be an ideal match with a little more in the way of dynamics and upper treble resolution.
