I wrote to Craig and asked about XLR inputs and dual XLR outputs . . . but I somehow doubt changes would be practical.

Why dual 3 pin when you have better options there?

If the better option is a single 4 pin balanced plug, I will then have to get a 3 pin --> 4 pin adapter made up.  $300+ for parts + labor.  (guess I'm just a cheap skate . . . lol . . .

I have a tough décision to take :

now that the EC 4-45 will be available again, I need to decide if I confirm my order or go instead for a McIntosh MHA-100 which is, I agree, definitively another animal, but also in my radar.

Well, until futur feedback prouve the contrary, I have the feeling that the DAC part is not the strongest part of this McIntosh and that a better DAC may be necessary to use all it's AMP potential (i hope I am wrong).

I found that the 4-45 do not come with the tubes because most customers like to source their own NOS 
 
Juthus suggested some EML 45 mesh  (from JAC Music)  as  well as  Sophia 45 Mesh which cost half the price of the EML.
 
--> Are the EML 45 mesh the best tubes for the 4-45 ?
 
--> Are there some viable alternative to those 2 tubes (EML & Sophia) ?  Which one you recommend as best choice ? 
 
--> Does the tubes have to be " mesh "?
 
and... aside question:  What are the BEST LOOKING 45 mesh Tubes 

   this is also important !!

and does the "mesh" versions are worth the extra cost ?
