Relaxing after the hike with my parents, before the jazz session begins...
Resisting temptation to pre-order either the OAE1 or HD 620S. End of the year will be a better time for that.

This. I.E just because certain people can love Fei Wan so much i can see why some people will rank it so low due to its treble and overly engaging nature. Audio gear is purely taste for example there are vocal head, bass head, treble head, etc. We all have different taste on how we want our music to sound like. I used to own Grand Maestro for me it was beautiful sounding set but some might not agree due to various reason and it is okay. Maybe what we can critizise and easier to agree on are accesories, packaging, customer services, design, naming, etc.

Anyway finally i receive my Feiwan what a beautiful engaging set musical yet technical. BUT!!! THE CABLE! OMG! Why such an expensive set include such lowly cable?! It is so microphonic and doesnt sound the best with Feiwan and boring design. Not fair for the price. Sorry for ranting i have to say it.
Did you sell off your Grand Maestro?

The Apple dongle has such a beautiful organic and musical timbre!

Not enough juice for most IEMs to drive them to full potential unfortunately

Naming only one, which piece of head-fi gear represents the very best value for money for you?

Is this based on original retail price, or can we factor in diminishing street pricing and secondhand pricing?

Anything goes (*). It's merely to get opinions from the incrowd on how to get the best sound for relatively little money for many starting in this hobby, including many lurkers on this thread. As a group we have learned a lot, so why not letting others reap the benefits of our joint experience?

(*) I don't think it would be helpful for anyone claiming that waiting for that one Traillii to show up 10 years from now for 500 bucks is the way to go.

I would say the Sennheiser HD 600 is a great entry point into hi-fi (yes) sound.

Final e5000. Under $100 in the used market, even new it has great value as it comes with a full set of their tips.

One can still appreciate them as they upgrade in the hobby as it scales so so well.

1. Well get Schiit MJ3 with Freya+ and Gungnir A2 from used market for as low as $2400 to $2500 for one rocking, punchy, dynamic desktop system. Feed headphone of your choice.
2. Drop ZDT Jr. or Liquid Platinum or Lyr 3+ with Mojo or BF2 and HD6X0 series from used market for $1000
2. Nitsch Pietus Maxiumus with ESS card with ZMF Bokeh ($1500)

Will let others chime in for IEMs.

warrenpchi: "I put that $&*! on everything!" 🤣

You seriously can't convince me that thing is not some kind of electronic bongo drum. Maybe for Donkey Kong on Switch?

Ironically, that's probably the one thing it can't do.
