Came across this auction on eBay today whilst browsing for 2nd hand headphones. This, however, is way out of my budget.
 
Wonder what they will go for.

It's said that Sennheiser only made 300 of it and $30000 price tag was already set before. So this auction will depend on its condition and current bidders' desire and wallet. It is listed as mind condition and a tube amplifier is also included. So expect $35000 or even more.

The amplifier that goes with the Orpheus is the most attractive headphone amplifier I have ever seen.
 
Now given that this is a 90's piece of kit surely there are better and cheaper combinations that would sound better so what is the appeal of this?? History, nostalgia, sound, exclusivity, sexiness or all of these. 
 
I'm thinking he may even get 40k for this combo.

Actually, that is not entirely true. In the flagship comparison the Orpheus and another amp was deemed the best sounding combination, ahead of the SR-009.

They went for $23,100.00 AUD. Hope it was a Head.Fi member.

It only crossed the US $20000 mark and I'd say that's a great deal. The bidder was lucky that no other strong bidders were there. It's a collectible headphone. The seller says it's near mint condition.
