Fiio uses obsoleted pcm5102 vs. Pcm5102a although they appear to be equivalent spec wise. Implementation of course could result in significant difference. Hugely impressed with my FIIO Mont Blanc for price so doubt you'd go wrong either way ....

I see. Anyone know either fiio e10k or ud120 has better sound quality? I found a deal here. http://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/FiiO-E10K-OLYMPUS-2-All-New-Improved-Performance-USB-DAC-Headphone-Amplifier-/380996075576?pt=US_Sound_Card_External&hash=item58b522c038  I have checked with other head fiers. It's a reliable seller.

Which sells fiio e10k for usd 80. The stoner acoustics emailed me saying the shipping charges had recently increased and the total cost for ud120[including shipping fee] would be usd 79 for me. When I'm just living in Singapore[just next to Malaysia!!] :frowning2:

The build quality for e10k seems better and a headphone jack is available to plug ur headphones in seems pretty good deal. But im willing to give up on that if sound quality in ud120 is noticeable better.

PCM5102A is what the E10K uses, Google tells me (did the old ones use the PCM5102?). Which is a pretty nice DAC package.
Unless you really need the tiny package of the UD120, I would pick the E10K. You get a much nicer build quality, for only a few bucks more.

I may be pointing out the obvious but UD120 is a DAC only and is not meant to drive HP directly whereas e10k is a DAC and Amp. I have no experience with e10k but Stoner was aiming for top performance in a no frills wrapper. It easily holds it's own against DACs costing considerably more.  If you're looking for top performance and already have an amp personally I'd go for Stoner.  If you want all in one solution go for e10k.

hey guys just asking. As im planning to get ud120. IS it alright to use ud120 at the back of my desktop? Where there's a lot of cables, power cords around there.

Have had no EMI issues with UD120. Only caveat is that it already runs HOT so needs to be in well ventilated location.

There is a usb isolator kit available from DIY member of trade here, could be interesting to those using usb powered DAC.  Would appreciate some impressions and measurements.  Really curious if it improves a usb powered DAC.
