"The ability to drive low impedance headphones, preserve a low noise floor from the DAC to the jack, and offer minimal distortion are much more important characteristics for smartphone audio than the theoretically supported bit-depth or sample rate, and we’ll hopefully be able to dive into these points in more detail in the future."

this should feel like a captain obvious quote for people in this section of the forum. but it's certainly worth understanding or at least believing, if digital audio and measurements in general aren't someone's forte.

perhaps next time you can try using a more descriptive title. because if everybody did this, the forum would turn into "true" and "question" topics everywhere. a browsing nightmare.

Oh, great, I was expecting some people to argue with it. Often what seems to be happening in this forum when I have a look, is everyone is talking about things that aren't audible, IE 'this is not audible, that is not audible!' So it's nice to see somebody cares about what can be improved, rather than just claiming no one can hear it, which is how it often seems.

Is there a thread about it, among all the ones about bit depth, jitter, and cables?

It would be nice to see the collective brainpool in here use their knowledge to improve our listening experiences.....rather than just waiting in the weeds to shoot down the next unsuspecting "audiofool"

most of my ideas go against audiophile principles(like how I'm actually against 100% digital volume level with most DACs), or ideas not even related to audio gears at all. in the last year, my biggest improvements concerning my musical experience/enjoyment have been:
- move my desk so that some low freq resonance in the room would almost cancel out at my sitting position.
- change a fan on my computer, put pillows and planks and dirt cheap inefficient acoustic panels around the case(while minding the airflow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) so that the idle noise from the PC is now noticeably lower. "night and day different!" but fo real^_^.
- put a clip on my HD650's cable to attach it to my shirt. so I don't feel the cable pull on my neck(which is not much TBH), but it also reduces various rubbing noises from moving my head around, and that's super HIFI. ^_^
- EQ stuff to my taste. "my EQ is my best friend, it is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. without me, my EQ is useless. without my EQ, I am useless".

so... yeah, audiophile2.0. :smile_cat:

It's so cool when a company like Beyerdynamic employs you, then you get to work on marketing, then you suggest they all go back to meaningful specs like 40-19000Hz +-2dB (Harmann) for instance.

"Do that again and you are fired."

Even Beyerdynamic has gone down that path of BS. Even have some ad agency whispering dumb ideas into their ear like: "Let's make a product and call it BYRD" because the Y is so MODERN and CLEAN and make each letter have a different color..."

"JEEEEZ"

"****".

PS. thanks for trigger <3
