They have been reversed back to normal thread now. You can do a search to find the original thread then wiki them.

problematically they were also there to alert users of conventions (e.g. posting new threads in particular forums or sub-forum rules) or frequently searched topics.

I think it's good to have them gone, new users can read the wiki's and now they won't clutter the main pages. I certainly won't miss scrolling past 15 stickies
