I've read that these are the very best sounding CD-R's around, does anyone know where I can buy them online?

Apparantly they're available at Wal-Mart, but I'm in Australia so that doesn't help me too much.

The black Memorex's of lore used to be made by Prodisc, but that was a few years ago. They're all made by CMC Magnetics now, not a good manufacturer.

That is not always the case. Some of the black Memorex's, such as the package that I bought yesterday afternoon from my local Busted Buy superstore (this has the black/green/silver label), are now made by Ritek. My previous package, with the black-and-gold label, was made by Prodisc.

I would actually recommend going down to best buy $20 for a spindle of 50. Or amazon but i think bestbuy is actually cheaper.

With Memorex Black CD-R's, what you'll get is a crapshoot. A lot of times, you'll end up getting crappy CMC-made discs. I just got lucky and got discs made by someone other than CMC Magnetics.

well the difference in SQ is minor, but a much better price/performance ratio than a lot of the cables

Correct me if I'm wrong here but CDR's as well as DVDR's are not like cassette tape in that the sound quality will always be identical whether you use a cheap no name brand or an expensive name brand.
I can see perhaps some brands might give you trouble burning but the audio quality will be identical.

only problem here is that not all media is created equal... so quality of the burn can affect audio BECAUSE not everything can be read off the disc

Time plays a role too. Poorer quality discs have dyes that can fade with time, kicking error correction into overdrive.

check out cdrlabs.com, i know they have a lot of tough and in-depth tests done on all sorts of cd-r's. i got a spindle of black cd-r's when they first came out and loved 'em. i don't know who made them, though. all i use now is verbatim and ritek. they're the best!
