I know they are drastically different in both sound signature and price..... but I'm trying to decide which to get next.

I have the ATH-AD700s and love them... just trying to figure out which can I would enjoy more to diversify my listening experience from the ATH-AD700s....

Also, I how do the M50s compare in sound to the DT770s?

Heya,

Why the HD650's? Why not just try the HD600's? You can get them used often here for a very good price. Do you have an amplifier? Going from an open-air can to a closed-back can (M50) will likely be something you love or hate. You may love the increase in bass frequencies that your AD700's lack. But you may not like the big loss in sound stage. The HD600's will give you that sound stage but also they have pretty good bass response. You could also explore the BeyerDynamic DT990 600ohm (if you have an adequate amplifier) if you want another open-air headphone with good bass frequency response. Considered some AKGs? Ultrasones? Grados?

As for your question about the M50's compared to the DT770 Pro's, they're similar, but I will say the DT770 Pro has better bass and is in a whole new world of comfort. Beyer headphones are some of the most comfortable things you can wear, big old soft pillows. I don't find M50's very comfortable for a long period of time (they get sweaty and warm to me). The M50 probably is less harsh on the treble compared to the DT770, which is a little sharp with some recessed mids. DT770 Pro's are for bass and are quite good at it while being very comfortable. M50 is more of a decent at all ranges, but not a master of any headphone. The DT770 Pro is not.

Very best,

Hmmm with that response I don't think I'm interested in the M50s now.

Why the HD650's?  I've always wanted a premium can.  I started with the Alessandro MS-1s and for a while I really wanted the higher end Grado such as the RS-1s prior to the GS1000s being released.  But then I experienced the ATH-AD700s and sold my MS-1s soon after.

To sum it up, I can get the HD650s for about $325NIB, so I can get a very very good deal on them.  I've always wanted a premium can, and I've always wanted to experiment with the Sennheiser sound.  IDK, curiosity killed the cat??

Yes I have an amp, Matrix M-Stage.  I use my computer as source with an Audioquest Cinnamon USB interconnect to my Musical Fidelity V-DAC, and Audioquest Sidewinder RCA interconnects to the Matrix M-Stage.

The HD650 and HD600 are both "premium cans." As having heard all 3, including the m50, the hd's are superior headphones. Grab the hd600 if you want a more neutral presentation, grab the hd650, if you want a more mellow and bass/mid oriented presentation.

Coming from my previous headphones I think the HD650s would be a better idea based on that information. . .

Anymore thoughts, anyone?

If you go the M50 you'll regret not going straight to the HD650. Even if you appreciate what the M50 provides, the "what ifs" will gnaw at you. Don't put yourself through that man.

The HD650 and the M50 are on two completely different price brackets.

As much as I would like to support the M50, against the HD650 it's really no contest.

They have arrived!  So far from first listen, they are a culmination between every headphone I've ever owned: MS-1, ATH-AD700, & DT770.

Overall very impressed so far.. Overall extremely good stuff.
