He 500 or the hd700?

Iam interested in buying the he500 as it seems to get alot of praise online and i was pretty adamant it was going to be my next upgrade, However one thing that has me a little iffy about the he500 is the build quality/comfort of these cans and the weight!!

I have recently come across the hd 700 which again get some great reviews and comfort/weight doesnt seem to be a problem, They are however a little more expensive but would the extra money be justified?

What would YOU choose?

Personally i want a great sounding headphone, Iam looking for something thats going to grab my attention the minute my ears hear the music, i listen to all genres except heavy metal, so a good all rounder is important for me! I currently have a Aune t1 amp/dac which i hope i wont have to renew also!!

I would like to know what you would go with?

Honestly I am not a fan of the HD700. I don't think its as precise as the HD800 and not as fun as some other headphones in its price range, so personally I would go for the HE500.  Plus I love orthos

Well the hd800 does seem to be superior to the hd700 but its also alot more expensive! I like the reviews of the he500 but what iam really wanting to know i guess is, does it compete with the sound quality of the he500? Because if so then i would favour the hd700 because it would be the more comfortable of the two!!

Yes I have heard the HD700 as well as many other headphones and personally I didn't like it. Its an opinion.  You don't have to agree with me

I agree that the other Sennheiser headphones aren't even remotely as fun.  Personally the most "fun" headphone or at least my personal favorite is the Audeze LCD2.  I would recommend it over the HE500 personally.  But again just my opinion.

If you have not heard the HE-500's they are very close to HE-6, which are on a different playing field to the HD700's

I prefer HE-500 for fuller bass presence and seemingly bigger soundstage.
HD700 sounded too analytical and spiky for my taste.

But the weight difference between the two is probably bigger than the sound difference

The he500 is outstanding as long as you're okay with heavy cans. They are quite heavy and need a good amp. The hd700 was not for me. I did hear it recently at a meet.

The HE-500 lush and warm midrange does wonders for female vocals or vocals in general.  It has a nice uppper end although not as airy as can be but the thing that is bothering me about the 500's is the microphonics in the cable.  Any movement and one will hear it - really bothersome.  That and the weight are two minuses on my book.
