Why are the Beyer DT990 so much cheaper than the DT880?

Basically the impedance doesn't matter in context with sound. It's just that the higher impedance Beyers sound better.

Hi does anyone know whether the dt990 editions 250 or 600ohm versions sound good with a darkvoice 332 amp? Also is there enough power from the 332 to power the 600ohm versions?

Thanks

Holy thread resurrection !!!

But I'm glad someone did cause I have wondered the same thing.  I really wanted a pair of DT 880 Premiums but when I looked on Amazon a few weeks ago, they were going for around $300 new or $225 used.

I checked the DT 990s and noticed that Amazon had a batch of used 32 ohm 990 premiums for $140 - $150 so I picked up a pair.  They didn't last long.  When I went in to check my order the next day, Amazon had sold all of them. Glad I snapped one up when I did.

I would like to try the 880's but the cheapest I have seen them is $179 for used pair of 880 Pros (250ohm).  I passed on them because I like the styling of the 880 premiums better.

The concensus from those who've actually owned/tested the different versions is that the 250 & 600 sound about the same and the 32 ohm is slightly inferior, though even that I guess would depend on the kind of use and ancilliaries. I notice though that despite several threads more or less debunking the superiority of the 600 in most real-word situations, the assumption continues to be made that anything other than the 600 is a compromise. This particular myth seems even harder to kill than the one about all integrated amps using 5c op amps to drive headphones, and that one had to have a stake driven through its heart.

Depends if you like the Beyer or Senn house sound.
