@vonBaron finally converting from solid state to proper tube amps I guess the main reason for a change could be use of Elrogs. I can image Niimbus can have tough times right now.I didn't realize that the WA22 is such a good amplifier (after replacing the tubes). GEC 6080 + shuguang treasure cv181-z + Elrog give a great show, my Niimbus amp is in danger.

I primarily use a Sophia 274b mesh plate, sometimes a 596; both sound great in their own way. The Sophia has a bloomier bottom end that sounds great with psych/fuzz rock and metal.Elrog is great tube but price is huge, i swap Elrog to Sophie and still sound great.

Hi, is your wa22 mk2 ?Success!
6336B working in my amp.
I did 3 sessions over the weekend with these power tubes.
3.5, 4.5 and 6 hours.
Amp and transformers got warm. Not hot.
Sound was the best power tube I have heard in my WA22.

That is a Gen 1 since it doesn't have the Pre option on the right side of the right knob.Hi, is your wa22 mk2 ?

Hi everyone, I'd like to ask a few questions. I am planning to buy a used Woo Audio WA22. The seller mentioned that the amp is 2nd gen but without the preamp "option". I checked Woo Audio's site but it looks they don't offer the preamp as an option. My questions:
- Do you know/remember if Woo Audio did offer this as an option back in the days for 2nd gen? Obviously my intention is to verify that this is indeed 2nd gen.
- I also tried to figure out what visual differences the 1st and 2nd gen has so that I can easily identify if this is indeed 2nd gen w/o checking the amp's guts
- If you could, would you suggest a few things to look for when buying used WA22s? Known problems, etc.

Based on the seller's activity on the local forum I am trying to buy from he seems to be a trusted member but still I'd like to be prepared a bit.

I believe the 2nd gen always included a preamp in the back. Also the first gen had a locking nut on the 1/4" jack in front
The 2nd gen is flush

Hum, that is very strange. Normally the 2nd gen has preamp, check on the back of the amp. It printed clearly WA22 2nd generation, you can also check the serial #. There are 8 numbers on my amp, the fist 2 is the month and the second 2 is the year that the amp was built.Hi everyone, I'd like to ask a few questions. I am planning to buy a used Woo Audio WA22. And don't worry too much, the 1st gen is still a great amp.

Thank you everyone for the quick replies. Based on the photos of the actual unit the 1/4" jack is flush and does not have the locking mechanism. I'll check the back and the serial too when buying. My intention is to make sure I know what I am buying plus if it is not what it is stated that could be a red flag although again the seller seems to be ok.

For these kinds of questions, it's best to email Mike at Woo (with the serial number if possible). He'd know the history of that unit and what the story is.

Thanks for the suggestion. I never know if it is rude to ask companies about their product if you buy from second hand market but this time I'll do that.
