I've been keen to listen to your headphones since I first saw them and saw a review that listed the MKI better than the Mad Dogs.

Can I ask, before I jump on the drop, how dark are the highs compared to a regular T50 MK3, or specifically, a T50 MK3 with the plasticine and closed cup mods? Also, I priced the same MD offer on your website and couldn't find all the options - are they the exact same model?

Thanks so much Zach!

It's hard to answer in terms of overall darkness.  The main improvements are less distortion, less treble peakiness, more extended smoother treble, lusher more forward mids and better bass extension and punch while increasing the soundstage.  It's a totally different headphone and experience than stock really, a big transformation.

AS far as VS modded t50 cups, I can only best compare to the classic.  The general frequency response can be achieved with cups made from anything, but what you get from wood is a firmer more dynamic fast response with more natural decay, warmth and timbre.  It's one of those things where if you've never heard a wood cupped headphone before you'll put them on and go, "oh, nice!."  It's just a more substantial sound.

The MD version can't be bought on the ZMF site actually as our Vibro's are usually made with Cherry.

If pricing it out it would cost:

$479.99 for the headphone
$70 for the stain
$50 for the wood upgrade

$599.99 total

It is the same VIbro tuning and model though, just with those changes.

I had/have the mad dogs 3.2 and the mad dog pros. I also own the vibro mk2 in red walnut (i think?), for me the vibro mk2 is much less dark than the mdp and sounds clearer. It sounds as if a veil has been lifted. mdp has more sub bass quantity and slower decay in comparison, i haven't heard an omni or blackwood though.

for what it's worth, i haven't really used my mdp outside of quick little comparisons since receiving the vibros, it's been my daily driver ever since.

Unfortunately it seems like my Blackwood has developed some buzzing in the left earcup. Doesn't happen super frequently or loudly, but its definitely annoying. I just wanted to make sure that there isn't a weird buzzing for other blackwoods in the left channel on the last 10 seconds of Doubt by twenty one pilots. Other than this song, most of the buzzing is short, but I hear a lot in this song.

Swap the left and right ends of the cable to see if the noise follows.  If it does, it's the song and/or cable.

good idea. Strangely, I went back for one more listen to make sure I was listening to the correct part where it makes the noise, and the buzz is gone. It had been doing it for a while, and I have no idea what changed. All I did in the interim was play more music. Weird

Did it happen when certain notes were playing?  Put your headphones through some tests at audiocheck.

Do the T50RPs, and planars in general not handle heavy bass EQing as well as dynamics? I reach distortion fairly quickly, whereas on my SZ2000 I can push the bass as loud as I want with no issues. I have the Vibro MK II's btw.

I would put your headphone through some checks at audiocheck.net, specifically the bass test.  Would be able to easily tell if you have some bass rattle/shaker issues.

it was actually mostly at middle/high frequencies. seemed to be set off by over-mastered voices and acoustic guitar

Just got a pair of Blackwoods. Coming from a Vibro I'm enjoying the more neutral response and extra sub bass.

Weird question, I took the pads off and now I can't remember which side was left or right. Which direction does the bottom of the Fostex lettering on the headband face? Haha

Anybody have a pic of the dampening under the earpads? Seems like my dampening is quite extensive for stock (bought these used).
