Hifiman HE1000 Planar Dynamic Headphone
I compared the Lavricables to the Cardas Clear and DHC Complement4. IMHO the Lavricables were massively better.- Sandy

Hifiman HE1000 Planar Dynamic Headphone
I have one of the Lavricables' master silver for my He1000 V1. I can report that it totally transformed them, removing 90% of the qualities that I didn't like - reticent mids and hazy treble.- Sandy

I think we should let them know very clearly how we feel. If enough people may a noise about it, they might make a policy change.- Sandy

HE1000 V2 and EDX V2 Are Coming Soon
I find it unbelievable that the pads are not available. Clearly, the product upgrade and it's repercussions on existing customers have not been thought through properly. I have certainly been put off ever buying another Hifiman product.- Sandy

Hifiman HE1000 Planar Dynamic Headphone
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE REPORT on how the V1s sound with the V2 pads on them !!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know how many times this has been asked. Most owners don't want to buy the V2s, or know how the V1 pads sound on the V2, they want to know how an $80 upgrade is going to affect their existing...- Sandy

I heard the V2 today. It is a significantly better balanced headphone than the V1. It had better integration through the frequency range, better mids and treble, better focus, and even a more natural soundstage. Will be interested in trying the V2 pads on my V1s.- Sandy

One extremely useful thing you could do in the short term, is to swap the V2 pads into the V1 and report the on the difference this makes. There are a lot of us V1 owners who will not be trading in on the V2, but would purchase the pads as an upgrade.- Sandy

The stock cable is bad. I found a huge improvement with these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Master-Pure-Solid-Silver-Sennheiser-HD700-Hifiman-HE1000-Edition-X-upgrade-cable-/182204555598?hash=item2a6c3ce14e:g:kEsAAOSw7s5XhjDg I agree 100%, the silver helps improve the focus in...- Sandy

The JPS Labs: Abyss AB-1266 Impressions Thread
The stand probably costs $300 to make in the quantities that they expect to sell. So $3K is about right with the industry markups. I know that we think that expensive electronics & headphones are worth the money, but they usually have the same high markups.- Sandy

I doubt that they will provide the revised headband for existing owners. I am sure that they will have the pads available, and I will definitely be interested in a pair of those. Interesting that they are also changing the cables. The old ones were awful - probably the worst stock cable...- Sandy

Hifiman HE1000 Planar Dynamic Headphone
Hi Eddie, Sorry, I wasn't having a go at you, and I didn't mean to imply that you did say balanced was superior. There are however a lot of people here who, by design or ignorance, propagate the view that SE equipment is an inferior option to balanced, which is misleading to the...- Sandy

I wonder how many of today's products are true balanced all the way though. It used to be common for many products with balanced inputs and outputs to actually be single ended with SE to balanced converter chips.- Sandy

Well, let's face it, the argument will never go away, and we all have preferences for what we like. I don't agree that there is one rule of thumb. My "OWN" rule of thumb is avoid balanced gear. I also know that Colloms has not changed his opinion. I am not trying to convince anyone of the...- Sandy

Hifiman HE1000 Planar Dynamic Headphone
Well, that is an opinion! Personally, I think balanced, as a rule, sounds inferior to SE. Balanced, typically has a darker tonality, deeper bass, and a larger sound stage. It may also seem more detailed. SE has more energy in the midrange and midbass, and is more dynamically...- Sandy

Yes, it is fine. The amp's minimum position is about 6.30, so I have quite a range of control. I never get above 11 driving speakers.- Sandy

As long as you keep the volume to a sensible level (as you would with speakers), they will be fine. Obviously, if you turn the volume to full clockwise position, you will pop them, just as you would damage your speakers. On my amp, I listen at around the 9 to 10 o'clock position...- Sandy

I made up a female 4 pin XLR adaptor using 1mm 6N OCC silver with bare wire teminations to connect to the binding posts. As the HE1000s are 90db efficiency, I just treat them as a pair of speakers.- Sandy

I haven't heard it on enough amps to say! I do like them one the Auralic Taurus mk2 (single ended mode), which a friend has. I run mine off the back of a speaker amp, which I really love. It is 10 years old, and no longer made. It is a British solid state amp, made by Orelle, about...- Sandy

Did you mean the Viva 845 SET amp? I heard my HE1000s along with the Abyss, HD800s, and the LCD4s on this. I personally did not like it that much. To my ears, it sounded quite tubey with an accentuated midrange, which is not my thing. YMMV.- Sandy
