Chord Electronics 2Qute DAC announced
What malenak said. Amongst all the uncertainties and doubts in my life, changing my DAC isn't even up for discussion. Not sure about the cola analogy but thumbs up for 'you add tubes'! Imagine how good a Dave/Blu MkII is. Frightening.- nickosiris

Woo Audio WA6 + WA6SE: Tubes, Comments, Pictures, and Advice
I've been listening to LCD-4 through a WA6-SE(ii) with the same valve combo for about the last year: RCA 13EM7 & Brimar 5Z4G ... until yesterday when I gave my KR 5U4G another go. It's been sitting idle all that time not because I don't like it (it's extraordinary) but because on a particular...- nickosiris

Toxic Cables - Impressions and Discussion Thread
I got in touch with Cosmic Cables to ask if they service IEM customers as I didn't see anything on their site, and they replied (swiftly) as follows: "Hello Nick, thank you for your enquiry, at the moment we are waiting for stock of the 2 pin 78mm and mmcx connectors from the USA, we are hoping...- nickosiris

@filip sebastian - Personally I prefer my Brimar 5r4GY (brown base) to the Sophia Princess 274B. It can be a great bargain if you get a decent one at a good price. Definitely worth the investment imho.- nickosiris

Foolish thing to say I know, given my many years of chasing audio perfection, but I just KNOW I'm going to love these.- nickosiris

AEON, MrSpeakers' New Closed Back Planar Magnetic Headphone
Whilst not as big as some on the market they do qualify as 'full-sized' in my book. However they are remarkably light so would be eminently suited to use during 'light activity'.- nickosiris

AEON, MrSpeakers' New Closed Back Planar Magnetic Headphone
I'm with LarryMagoo. I would never use a phrase like 'very thin' or 'lacking bass'. I very much admire the amount and quality of the bass response from the AFC but each to their own and this would be a very boring website indeed if we all liked the same things!- nickosiris

Audeze LCD-4
@ donato - Glad you're enjoying your new phones. IMHO you'd have to have a helluva full size speaker system carefully set up in the perfect space to make a noise that competes with a sufficiently driven LCD-4. Don't get me wrong, I love speakers but goodness me I can't even imagine how much a...- nickosiris

@ twitch133 - I've got a fairly new WA6-SE so haven't heard everything yet but I'm a big fan of the Brimar 5Z4GY from your list, and it'll set you back significantly less than $300!- nickosiris

AEON, MrSpeakers' New Closed Back Planar Magnetic Headphone
That's not an uncommon comment about the LCD4, but it's never been an issue for me. I listen for blissful hour after hour with no thought of the weight. Yes 'forgiving' sounds a bit like 'covering up the flaws' or 'not analytical'. It has negative connotations for me anyway, and whatever...- nickosiris

AEON, MrSpeakers' New Closed Back Planar Magnetic Headphone
@ guerph - Totally get what you're saying. I've only had the AFCs a couple of weeks but one of the things I've noticed with them is that I'm far more often in 'Enjoying The Music' mode rather than 'Gear Review' mode with them, way more than I would normally with new stuff. I love my LCD4...- nickosiris

Well goodness me. I stopped reading this thread on a regular basis a while back as it was exposing rather more of the ugly side of HeadFi's more entitled users than I prefer to be made aware of, and the little nuggets of actual information were few and far between. Then I pop back in today to...- nickosiris

AEON, MrSpeakers' New Closed Back Planar Magnetic Headphone
I've had a new pair of AFC for a week or so now and I have to report I'm very pleased with them. There was a not inconsiderable hint of guilt involved in the purchase - do I really NEED another pair of phones? Such feelings have been mostly quashed by a bunch of excuses I've invented (I don't...- nickosiris

Toxic Cables - Impressions and Discussion Thread
Sorry chaiyuta I haven't heard the new cable, but I have been using my new Viper cable (into CIEMs) for about a week now and it's delicious. My third Toxic cable so far and if I needed another I'd go straight back to Toxic Cables again. I'm not going to call a £120 earphone cable a bargain...- nickosiris

^ I second that. Chord did indeed tell us that an 'upgrade' to the PSU was totally unnecessary when the 2Qute came out, but I notice a definite audible improvement with an LPS instead of the stock PSU.- nickosiris

Audeze LCD-4
Just pulled the trigger on the WA6-SE plus fancy valves for my LCD-4. Luckily I don't have to justify the cost to anyone or I'd be in big trouble. Particularly when I have excellent amplification for them already... why do we do these things?!? "I can always sell the one I don't want to keep." -...- nickosiris

Just to be clear: my point was not that it was a poor review, it was that I went into reading the review with a preset bias, and wasn't going to tolerate any sentence that didn't look like ecstatic praise. You stood no chance! You're as entitled to your opinion as much as I am.- nickosiris
