World Premiere: beyerdynamic presents CUSTOM - the first headphone series with interactive sound and user-generated design

19th March 2012

Music fans have their own mind - and they are choosing the right equipment. Headphones come in numerous design variations and sound-voting. But would not it be great if they could change their style and their sound - depending on what the user just wants to?

The CUSTOM series of Heilbronn audio specialist beyerdynamic allows just that CUSTOM is for an individual look and sophisticated equipment details for a headphone design that can change at any buyer, even with a few simple steps - any time, even long after the sale.

CUSTOM also means: individuality of sound. An ingenious system allows the acoustic sound-tuning - from analytical sound back to beat monsters. The customer no longer has to choose a characteristic sound, he can have it all.

CUSTOM Style: Design choice
The headphones are available in numerous variants: The purist swears by the night-black RAW BLACK edition, the BritPop fan shows his weakness with the UNION JACK, the taxi driver to his solidarity with colleagues in New York by the yellow NY underline cab version.

But tastes are changing - and with them the CUSTOM models. Design kits for retrofitting (starting at 20 €), the headphones can still look new again. Another headband, for example, carbon deposits and chrome panels on the sides, is finished, the radical-type change. Removable cable set not only splashes of color, they also offer extras such as iPhone Remote control functions for headset or Skype or dragons.

CUSTOM Sound:
For guarantees impeccable sound beyerdynamic technology - "Handmade in Germany". Especially for the CUSTOM models, a new generation has been developed transducers, whose extremely low impedance (16 ohms) teasing out the maximum performance from any audio source. The headphones are designed for studio applications, as well as for jam sessions with the iPad or relaxing listening to music on the go.

Here, the CUSTOM-series to the different requirements in the studio and on the road with an ingenious trick in this context: Quad switchable bass reflex ports in the earcups to change the sound characteristics desired. Are they closed, protects the wearer of the headset from ambient noise. At the same little sound penetrates to the outside, which could interfere with some fellow passengers.

Opens the carrier two small slider on the ears, the bass becomes more pressure and volume until it sounds so rich and powerful as it should be for hip-hop, rap, drum & bass. With a handle you can compare the sound profiles and determine the best for the current mood or select the current song.

How would they make it so a headphone can completely switch its sound signature? Hmm, I'm curious about these...

An open headphone that is designed for bass. Cover the grills and the bass goes away. Insert a plate that slides to cover the grills on the inside. You instantly get two signatures. Good and bad.

Very best,

Hrm,

Sounds like they're just trying to break into the "Beast/Soul/Sync/Vmoda" market with the same price, same iphone marketing, and all the custom stuff like that Vmoda is doing. Now if they can do that with Beyer quality, I'll be impressed. But they'll need to market a lot better than just on niche forums and websites.

Very best,

i hope these are great.

I'd hate to see a company like Beyer put out something that doesn't stand up to the quality that their name stands for.
