Anyone aware of a clear heatshrink that when shrunk remains softish/moveable?

All the clear I've tried (no glue) shrinks then sort of sets quite hard.

Want to make some premium earhooks for IEM cables.

Get it from audiophonics in France

I haven't seen one either.
All silicon rubberised heatshrinks have solid colours, they don't shrink all that much, and in long runs are stretchy! after all they are rubberised.
To tackle that, if I use such a thing, I also run a strong chord or string within.
If you find such a thing, let me know.

Finished another cable. 1,45m long. Soon I will have too many cables.

Construction:
3,5mm Rean NYS231BG-LL/ Aluminium splitter in two 8 conductor braided wires/ 2x 3,5mm Rean NYS231BG. Solder used: Mundorf Silver/Gold (MSOL.SG-010G).

The 3,5mm connector tips are L and R, the sleeves are GND. The wires are soft and nice to the touch. The construction is 2 cables side by side the whole way, where a bit more than 2/3 are covered with a cable sleeve. The construction is sturdy and tough, but at the same time soft and does not hold any shape.

What sleeve did you use for it?

I don't know exactly, I just grabbed some I had around. (I can get a part number if you are interested.) It is fully plastic, no cotton but soft and doesn't hold shape. You can wrap it tightly and it will stay put and when unwrapped it gets perfectly straight, at least with the cable I used. Usually it gets used for wrapping industrial or automotive wiring harnesses. Hopefully it won't be too microphonic when dragged across clothing, but I haven't tried the cable yet.

I'd also like to know, that looks like good stuff! :)

It took way too long to find it, but I finally did.

It is from the manufacturer Tracon Electric, comes in 5 sizes, the one I used is TKH-010 (Ean: 5997374160438) for 10mm cable and is sized 4,8mm-15,9mm. Price for this 10mm one is 0,65€-0,84€ per meter, bought in local store.

Thank you! Beautiful job and great choice of materials :)

Made a "PWA 1950s". 4 wire. Cardas Clear. Each channel has the central core for the + / - and the outer shield connected to 4.4mm ground for shielding.

Hardware by Plussound. Nice enough connectors. Wanted the logo facing out, so wired that way. Sleeved bottom half for poops and giggles.

I've got a harebrained scheme for a set of 1m balanced interconnects, based on some established manufacturers' products, and wire types that I enjoy (CU-AG) and want to try out (AG-GD).

IMG_20231214_174044__01.jpg

  • 30 meters Neotech CU-AG-20 (24awg)
  • 10 meters Neotech AG-GD (24 & 26awg)
  • Furutech NCF XLR's - I love the idea of set screw termination so I can play around with wire counts & geometries if needed.
  • Techflex Noise Reduction sleeving
  • Techflex cotton sleeving (not sure if I'll end up using it for this project)
The plan is to make a 4 strand braid out of 4-strand braids. The signal runs will end up at around 59.6% silver, 40% copper, 0.4% gold. The grounds will be completely CU-AG-20.

I like the Neotech silver gold matched up with copper as well. A shame it's so expensive. The only trouble you may have is the length of the wire you use will vary a bit if you are braiding 24 and 26 AWG together. The length of the 26AWG will be a little longer, if that makes any difference to you. Otherwise the PE dielectric is the same so there will be no braiding inconsistencies there. Looking forward to see how it comes out! :)
