considering parting with my H5 in favour of an Icon HP8.
seems a more flexible unit being otc.

dont suppose anyone has had both to compare?

Also not a direct fan of the Icon HP8 when I look at it from a value-for-money perspective:

Point-to-point wiring is done OK but components aren't the boutique kind that I would want to see for that kind of money.

Have not tried the hybrid Eufonika yet, but its MOSFET output stage should be pretty great... if you'd consider a solid-state output stage.

i already have a great hybrid, the G1217 Project Ember.
it may be small but it packs a punch

Or you could build your own Traffo-House for the H5. Much easier to build than I described.

You will be trading some immediacy and detail with the HP8 vs H5. And tube rolling flexibility. Probably best to keep the H5. And just add the HP8 to the collection. After all we're here to help you spend your money. :joy:

I have an H5 Miflex for my ZMFs and was using a Garage1217 Solstice for my Hifiman Arya planars, but after building LobalWarming's Traffo-House I've retired the Solstice. The Ayra is stunningly good with the H5 + Traffo-House. Kinda wish someone else would build one and chime in here... They're cheap, and easy enough to make.

Using an RCA 6SN7GTB (red letters) now and that made the sound even better. Great bass, warm and rich mid-range. What a great amp.

Hello I have just ordered the H5KPCU model, I am new to tube amps, could you guys give me some recommendations for NOS (or modern) tubes that are good for music but not too expensive? My headphones are Beyer's DT990 PRO 250 ohm.
@LobalWarming has given recommendations many times - I feel like he is about to take time out to type out these messages again, lol.. I will link his previous posts for you in regards to this question/topic to save him some time!

Do you also know of some affordable tubes that are closer to my home country? :D German, Russian, Polish or in EU overall?
I am planning to listen on "stock" tubes for quite awhile but since I have zero tubes in my collection I wanted to get some affordable ones :)
I did see quite a few british ones I might get in your recommendations but shipping prices are a bit steep haha
