HIFIMAN Shangri-La: The New Electrostatic Headphones From HIFIMAN
Jan 6, 2016 at 5:44 PM Post #16 of 1,057
According to the founder and CEO of HIFIMAN on his Weibo (China's version of Twitter). The Shangri-La electrostatic headphone and amplifier combo isn't going to be cheaper than a BYD Tang SUV. (CN¥300,000 or ~$45,750 USD)

According to that web site, the Shangri-La will be available in the first half of 2016. Also added a pic of the associated amp.

Oh yeah, there are choices out there

I was just hoping for HFM to release a budget friendly amp with it.
Regardless, that's assuming the Shangri-La is priced the same as HEK at worst

It is apparently a nanometer matter coated, submicron diaphragm though and going by the name, this just might be HFM's most expensive headphone yet.
Let's wait and see

Looks like quad 300B or 845B SETs.
Any word on pricing?

Sounds like it.
External design is virtually identical to the HEK. No detachable cables by the looks of it

Why would you want a detachable cables on electrostatic headphones?

Assuming Fang's tweet on Weibo is right [mentioned on the 1st page], the amp could be around 40 - 50 grands

If it was indeed a joke, then no details yet.
No pricing for the Shangri-La, but the name has an expensive connotation to it

Could well be, if they add in marble, some hydraulic lifts, maybe 24K gold trims with diamonds inlays.

If the greater than USD $45,000 price holds up, by comparison to exotic cars we are surpassing Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and even Bugattis and going for the Lunar Rover. This will be ridiculous.

Maybe they're only intending to build and sell just 50 units.

Unless I'm mistaken, he said it would be LESS than $45k, which still leaves a pretty big price range to play with.  I tend to think this is a jab at the Orpheus 2.
