HIFIMAN Shangri-La: The New Electrostatic Headphones From HIFIMAN

Can someone chime in that has heard the Orpheus, Shangdi La and especially the MSB with the SR-009.

The MSB is usually considered overpriced for what it is and does not sound what it costs. The best performing amps for the 009 include the KGSSHV carbon, BHSE and the diy T2.

I only heard the Shangri-La prototype back at SoCal. It was with the 300B amp proto and my source/ It sounded a lot like the SR009, for a lot more money.
The Orpheus, on the other hand wowed me, so if I had that kind of money, it's going to German craftmanship and sound.
But I was also impressed by the new Stax Lambdas. The L700 uses a similar driver that the 009 uses, for 1799$. I was also impressed by the L500 and L300 at 799$ and 499$ respectively. And all three sounded fine off all the Stax amps, even the most budget ones, which can't be said about the 009s.
I can see a Lambda in my future as it is. For the money, they are hard to beat IMO...

+1 on the L700, definitely gives you a sense of the electrostatic sound

All three do. I'd take the L500 for the money personally, but I can see why the L700 would be the pick of many :]

I guess the only thing you can do to stop the pricing trend is not buy one

I'll be doing my part :p

They were taking pre orders for the headphone a while ago for $9999 weren't they? I can see some people buying those without the amp if they like the electrostatic sound and subjectively prefer them over the stax offerings and already own a top flight amp. Probably not a massive amount of systems though...

How would these stack up against the Utopia?
