HOW TO REPAIR YOUR DENON D-2000, D-5000, and D-7000 HEADPHONES - If Your Cup Has Fallen Off The Gimbal
Feb 23, 2015 at 4:10 PM Post #76 of 109
First of all thank you guys, because of this thread I was able to order the parts from Sindy, and fixed my lovely d2000s.
And I wanted to share with you, how I made my own 4mm nut driver.
All stuff needed you can easily find at your home . I guess nobody can't beat the price )))
So take a tip from the conventional BIG ballpen, it would be middle part of the pen, which secures the paint in the body, heat the end of it with hair dryer, lighter, matches of magnifier and sun rays, whatever you got  to make the end flexible and soft, but don't overdo. Place the nut into it and let it cool. Then take some coarse sand paper and grind it until it fits the hole. Worked just fine. To lock the nut and cup in place I used nail clear coat. Similar stuff factories use in electronic manufacturing. Hope it helps. Here are some pics of my tool :)

P.S. Unfortunately I cant add pictures yet, since I'm new user here, but once I can, I'll add couple pics of my invention.

Pics?.................

Thread should be alive and the information in the OP is mostly still current.

I e-mailed Luigi, whom no longer works for Denon, but referred me to denon.parts@dmh-global.com whom gave me this image breakdown of the D2000 and all parts are available except for the chrome cap that covers the nut on the hinge (not really a big deal).

The information they gave me with prices and availability is as follows:

7-3: 9H3419100380D  6.47 IN STOCK
7-4: 9H3509500170D  .69 CENTS  IN STOCK
7-5: 9H3521500140D   .69 CENTS   IN STOCK
7-6: 9H3472100200D  .69 CENTS  IN STOCK
7-7: 9H3521500150D   .69 CENTS  IN STOCK
7-8: 9H3522500050D   .79 CENTS IN STOCK
7-9: 9H3419100390D -  NO LONGER AVAILABLE - Cap/Cover

With that said I do plan on repairing my D2000 and ordering a set of extras hopefully too.

I hope this updated information helps any folks still wondering if this service can be done.

Thank you @Gradofan2 for starting this thread and @Kursah for updating it: I just emailed about replacement parts today.  My problem has been with the screw (7-4) that broke/worked its way out or the right side of my AH-D2000's.  I had been getting by with a screw I had taken out of a Korg NanoKey that I had cut to length and that worked for a while, but after letting a friend use them during a recording session (I know I know I should know better) that screw is juuuuuust stripped enough not to thread anymore.  So I'm ordering parts for a whole new assembly, and a spare set as well for the future.

Any specifics on the precision nut driver is needed to remove the 7-8 nut?  (edit: I see that it's a 4mm nut, but any guidance on outer diameter of the nut driver, or a specific one that has worked?  Thanks.)

Long live our Denons!

Just an update:

As promised by @Gradofan2 and @Kursah, Denon had the parts in stock, for the prices listed above, plus $7 in shipping.  Unexpected was how quickly the parts would arrive: I placed my order late in the day on Monday, the order shipped on Tuesday and I had them in hand Wednesday.  I bought parts for two full assemblies (7-3 through 7-8) plus two extra-extra 7-4 screws, totaling $29.80 with shipping.

And thanks to @ghettocoolie for pointing us to this set with the 4mm precision nut driver needed for the repair for under $12: http://amzn.to/1MAHftR

So, for a total of about $40, my D2000's are good as new, and I have a whole spare assembly for the future.  Thanks all in this thread for making that possible.

Hi guys, is there a way to order Fostex parts? I'm having an issue with my th-600 but the parts here look different as they are for the old denon cans.

See pics. http://imgur.com/a/9klcg

Anyone know if Denon parts ordering is still active on any sites? If not, does anyone have spares to help me rebuild a D2k?

As per usual, I need the parts going from the top cover to the washers to the screw and everything sandwiched in between.

They are still shipping parts. They may be out of stock on certain ones, but then you can find them on other websites. I recently ordered several pieces for the same issue. Warning: the parts are super cheap ($0.25, $0.75, etc.) but they'll slap a $14.99 S&H charge for a 1/2 ounce plastic bag. Lol

I own a pair of Fostex TH500RP HP with are i would say are an exact replica of the D5000 except for the cups so i manage to find where to order parts .But to my astonishment they were asking for the small 1/2 inch long threaded shaft a few washers and the small screw around $50.00 you heard me right $50.00 so the hell with planning ahead .

Hey how does the TH500RP compare to the D5000? I'm about to sell me D2000 and was thinking of getting the D5000, D7000 or the TH-500. What is the best one for Bass??

Denons hands down if you like thumping bass . Now remember that the TH500RP is a planar its a smoother less punchy sound if you compare them to the Denon's and the brighter  Senns HD800  here's a link to the thread                                      http://www.head-fi.org/t/684441/new-fostex-rp-open-backed-planar-magnetic-headphone-th500rp-available-now
