iFi audio GO Bar - The Best Pocketable HiFi System, Bar None!

You are quite welcome, I wish I had a better answer for you.

If this is happening only on MQA tracks (at the moment) this wouldn't surprise me, there seems to be a difficulty there for a bunch of devices. Speculation is that the changeover to all FLAC is creating problems for some devices, and by that, I mean source and Dongle, or DAPs for that matter. I think every manufacturer is kind of stuck in the MQA Switch Further (Yes that's an Insidious reference).

Without speaking ill, if Tidal would just stop sending MQA-encoded material this wouldn't happen, but it is what it is until they are done.

I will try to research it further. Right now my Roon wont even play an MQA track it *** right thru it, lol

Cheers!!

iPhone 15 Pro - Tidal - Go Bar = white noise at the start of PCM after having played MQA.

Yes doing away completely with MQA would fix it because it is the swap from MQA to FLAC that causes the problem which frankly makes me think the problem is with the Go Bar getting caught off guard at the swap of file types but that may be wildly inaccurate.

Regardless, even if the problem is with the Go Bar, it will sort itself out when Tidal eventually gets rid of MQA. I don't see that happening any time soon, I have suggested playlists littered with MQA tracks. If they want to get rid of it why not at least not use those files, make suggested mixes with FLAC only.

Anyway ... thanks, I will update if something sorts itself out sooner than later.

I tried rolling back the firmware to 1.70 and 2.20 from the current 2.40 and nothing made any difference.

Latest update to Tidal 2.107.0 and the issue persists, that is I think now at least three app updates that the problem has existed through and it might have done it with every version of the app, I haven't used the Go Bar with the iPhone 15 Pro until quite recently.

Seems like a USB compatibility issue to me. Oddly in a world where this sort of thing seems like it is a solved science with strict standards I have had incompatibilities and similar white noise problems with several combinations of sources and DACs that only swapping to a different source (or DAC obviously) could solve. No amount of messing with cables or waiting for app updates made any difference and the problem was repeatable just like this one.

I will have a look on the iFi website to report it but I am not concerned as I just use Apple Music instead but figure it is worth mentioning to them.

EDIT - logged info with iFi support - the outcome is not critical to me but it would be nice if a firmware update could fix it. I would imagine one of the techs has an iPhone 15 and uses Tidal so I would hope it would be an easy thing to duplicate :relaxed:
There has been another Tidal update to 2.107.1

Not sure if this is helpful but just noticed it so I thought I would post it up.

Cheers!!

If you want to try a single driver iem that has extraordinary synergy with the ifi GO bar and that costs very little you can buy and try a Final Audio A3000. With less than 100 euros you will have an iem with an extraordinary sound and which has nothing to envy to much more expensive iems and thanks to the very powerful amplification of the GO bar you will not have any problems with its 98db as well as not having any hiss. Truly an excellent synergy!!!

Thanks for the suggestion! I am in the beginning stages of looking for a sub-200 pair of IEMs this will go into consideration!

Cheers!!
Have you tried the PULA PA02?

I have not, I was hoping to check out a few different brands next week at AXPONA, when I can, lol

Cheers!!
You should definitely try as soon as you can:

1)PULA PA02
2)SLIIVO SL-41
3)Final Audio A3000

They all cost very little... but they will give you a lot.

As soon as I saw that ddHifi was launching a new lightning cable, I was thinking to give it a try. Today I am happy to announce that the new MFi07S Lightning cable works fine with the iFi Go Bar (non-gold version) with an iPhone 14 Pro Max.

I am currently using the firmware version 2.20a and so far, the following cables are working fine with my iPhone 14 Pro Max:
  • HiBy Lightning cable
  • Fiio LT-LT1
  • ddHifi MFi07S
And the cables that I own and do not work with the iFi Go Bar:
  • ddHifi MFi06
Regarding the MFi07S cable, it is quite expensive, but the build quality is exceptionally good. The connectors feel rock solid, and the actual cable/wire feels as flexible as the stock iFi cable but has an outer insulation layer of PVC that makes it more durable compared to the stock one:

If you are curious about the technical specs of this cable, check the product page here.
The ddHifi MFi07S doesn’t work with my iPhone 13 (running iOS 17.4.1) with the standard Ifi Go Bar. Sporadically lose sound through earbuds, although iPhone shows music still playing. Linsoul wants me to send them a video of the problem. Frustrated because the phone screen doesn’t reflect any issue. Just lack of sound through the ear buds. ☹️
