Shanling H7 - High-End Portable DAC/AMP/Player, Featuring new AKM AK4499EX Flagship DAC
Nov 15, 2023 at 6:31 PM Post #1,006 of 1,116
I tried to ceonnect the device to my Apple TV but it won’t connect. I see it on the listed devices but it will not connect. (firmware are both up to date)
Apple TV is a client, H7 is also a client, it cannot connect to another client. Have to connect to a host. This is computer 101.

The knowing devices ever released to market, only Fiio BTA30 pro can be able to use as a client (and a host).

Hey guys, I received the H7 and I like it a lot.

I can connect it to my iPhone and my MacBook via Bluetooth. Codecs are all AAC.
@Shanling are you aware of this issue and do you have a solution?
Is the sync issue still present with apple devices? Trying BT on my iPhone with a movie and the sync issue is still present

Our devices have issue connecting to Apple TV, so far our software team presented no fix.

No improvement on the sync.

That’s not true. I own the BTR7, BTR3 and the Gryphon and they can all connect to the Apple TV. The H7 is the receiver of the audiosource (Apple Tv) as if you connect it to an iPhone or Mac

Ok thanks for the reply.
Are there any attempts to fix it?

It was reported to software team for a fix, we do not have any more details.

So I’ll give my opionion about the H7.
I really like the natural sound coming from the device. My Hifiman Arya Organic are getting sometimes a little harsh with other Dacs/Amps combo solutions (Mojo 2, Gryphon, Go Bar, BTR7) but using the H7 the tremble fatigue isn’t there.
The Soundstage is wide but not really big, the midrange is one, if not the best I have heard with the Organic. The instrumental separation is really good. The bass/subbass is less dominant and isn’t covering the midrange as with some Ifi products.
My only complain is the audio lipsync delay using Bluetooth on Apple devices, and the problem connection the H7 to my Apple TV.

H7 is very very impressive in the mids and highs but not so impressive in the lows.H7 is one of the most underrated dac out there. To my ears it is better than gryphon, cayin n7,new fiio m15 and shanling m7.Its on the same league like dx320 and very close to sp3000.My comparison is using 1.6 firmware it's the best firmware out there for sound quality.1.5 is muffled sounding and new 1.7 version is more analytical with compressed stage.i never faced any serious connection issues with h7.what I like more about h7 is I can enjoy 2 different sound signatures.Sdcard and usb/bt sounds slightly different.
good afternoon, and what iem, full-size are you using?a lot of named tops that are worse than H7...it's strange somehow all this

I mainly used the Hifiman Arya Organic, Hifiman Ananda and the HD600. I don’t use IEMs atm.
I was mainly looking for something more musical, less analytic and the H7 is delivering exactly that.

I really like the H7. In fact, I liked it so much that I also bought the M9 Plus on pre-order when it was initially released.

I’ve only used the H7 via the USB input. When first powering on the H7, I used to get a real static like sibilant tone to the music forcing me to immediately power off the unit. Upon re-powering on the H7, everything would be fine and the sound was good.

When the previous firmware (v 1.6) was released the sibilant static sound problem went away, but instead I just heard nothing upon initially powering on the H7. Powering it down and then immediately back on always resolved this problem but it was annoying and frustrating.

I was excited that another new firmware was recently released (v 1.7) which indicated it would fix this problem.

After updating to v 1.7 , it has not resolved this problem for me. I still need to switch the H7 on-off-on again every time I want to use it. @Shanling is there a solution here?

We have no further info on this from engineers, nothing we can advice.

I am using campfire audio Solaris 2020.I attended a audio connect last month and tried h7 with many headphones and iems and compared with the mentioned sources. The best pairing was with noble audio ronin.I couldn't try too many hp's bcz most of them were connected to desktop setups with xlr connections. I liked the pairing of Audeze mm500 and senn hd660s2 with h7.Honestly I was going to sell my unit before they released version 1.6 and after I attended the audio meet-up and comparing with other sources I decided to keep h7.Its a great dac amp for the money and its worth double the price for sq alone.

I found a solution to connect it to my Apple TV (Beamer Toslink to 3.5mm Toslink of the H7).
The sound is really good (better then the Mojo 2, Gryphon, Angel in my opinion). Gonna compare it to the Cayin N7 on the weekend and then I will decide which one I will buy/keep.
The Bluetooth sound is phenomenal (compared to the BTR7/Gryphon).

Has someone a filter recommendation? Using the short delay slow roll of atm and the sound in my opinion is a bit less fatiguing (most analog like) compared to the sharp filters..
