Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
Oct 22, 2015 at 1:25 AM Post #17 of 6,072
The price of the KSE1500 is $2999. It is a system, so that price includes the amp/DAC module and, of course, the earphones.

Shure also announced the Shure SHA900 today, which is an amp/DAC for standard headphones that has the same parametric equalizer as the KSE1500's amp module. The SHA900 is $999. Truth be told, they've both been here, but I haven't been able to put the KSE1500 down long enough to say much about the SHA900 yet. I'll be saying more about the SHA900 later.

Thanks Jude!

Thanks for the video, @jude!  Awesome presentation, and this looks like something I will need to experience in the near future!

I will need to contact Sensaphonics (Shure's partner company for custom sleeves) and find out when they will have the SCS (Sensaphonics Custom Sleeves) available for the KSE1500!  To be able to wear the SCS with the KSE1500 would be ultimate bliss!

Edit: Sent inquiry.  It's pretty late where they are located right now, so hopefully I'll be able to update this post with what they respond with tomorrow.

Would be a lot easier to say it's "only $500 more than Layla and you get a free amp/dac".

Now I'm just wondering how they sound like compared to the Layla's.

Dammit, I just got the Layla's not too long ago.

Those headphones look classy.

On a sidenote, moedawg140, I went to Sensaphonics last Tuesday (I live half a mile away) to get some impressions and custom sleeves for my SE535's. I asked for a custom color, and I showed the woman who currently makes the sleeves your forum post. She wasn't the one who made your sleeves, but she remembered seeing them and is going to make me something with the same colors. I'll post some pics in your original thread once I get my sleeves.

Goodnuss grayshuss! Good chance this'll wind up being my endgame. Just wish it was possible to get with an amp (only) that lacked the DAC and EQ. I suppose there are those who don't have 24/192 files who'll want to add bass boost to their MP3 streams. But I digress and such.

Most exciting news for quite sometimes... Looking forward to this.

Also, happy to see that some market players like Shure, are trying their best to innovate.

If they are selling it in Japan after their announcement later today in Fujiya Avic, might ask my friend to purchase them on the spot.

Cheers

While the development, and Shure coming out of silence, were nice and all, can we take a moment to digest a plastic set of earphones with fixed wires for $3K in context? I mean, where is this industry heading? Stereo 2-channel HiFi prices? Isn't the reason Head-Fi and Headphones Hobby took off in a big way mostly due to the aversion to the multi thousand dollars 2 channel setups? Now we are slowly crawling towards that limit.
