T+A HiFi - HA 200 (Headphone Amp & DAC Combo) - Official Discussion Thread

Don’t have the MP 200, have a Chord 2go/2yu streamer.
Then I don't think USB would be better.
You can still try, but my expectation would be that both are about equal

It doesn't need to be expensive but the A-Link Interface between MP200 and Ha200 could be superior and is the recommended connection
In my subjective experience, the Roon, Tidal and Qobuzz streaming using the MP200 and interconnect through to the DAC200 appears to render a less defined sound field when compared to a USB connected Roon Mac playing the same streaming services. Standard printer type USB A to B cable used FYI. I would think the HA200 would sound very similar with the MP200 connected via A-Link.

AFAIK, the USB can accept higher resolution data streams and the A-Link, BNC and Toslink are limited to 192

HA200 (AND DAC200) have this amazing feature that lets you know the quality of USB input signal. I dont know if you guys know of it, freaking cool I tell ya!

Hi, thanks for the link but the figures they use are not standard ohms and don't quote anything past 80ohms.
As a guide for understanding.
D8000 Pro Edition. They sound great!
I don't have a shadow of a doubt that the T+A HA 200 can't handle these headphones (gain set to 8R).
An important feature of the T+A HA 200 is the increased current strength (700 mА), which is recommended for isodynamic headphones.

Perhaps this will help you.

Hi, thanks for the link but the figures they use are not standard ohms and don't quote anything past 80ohms. They also quote max power is 1.65W/32ohm which doesnt corelate to the 10 watts mentioned in the chat. This 1.65w is with balanced in but single ended out.
Not sure if I understood all the technical details.
In the HA 200 manual is stated:
- you can change impedance of the outputs between 8 ohms up to 80 ohms
- the impedance of the output should be in the range of 1/5 to 1/10 of the headphone‘s impedance
Does this mean headphones up to 800 ohms might be possible ?
So I don’t know if this somehow answers your question

Here is some guidance from T+A to calculate the output of the HA200, depending on your headphone impedance.

The HA200 is capable of max. 700mA current at max. 9.9 Volt To properly calculate the output level, both the headphone impedance and the impedance set at the HA 200 is needed.

The following formula can be used to derive the output levels given headphone/ HA 200 impedance.

Power Output = Headphone Impedance x (9.9/(Set Impedance HA200+Headphone Impedance))^2

The power output is the same for the balanced and unbalanced sections.

For the example below, our team worked with the assumption of the impedance being set to 8 Ohms. The following numbers are the max. output powers depending on the headphone impedance:

32 Ohms -> 1960 mW
60 Ohms -> 1270 mW
80 Ohms -> 1010 mW
200 Ohms -> 450 mW

Currently using a Chord 2go/2yu streamer into my HA 200 (A 200).
I’m mainly using internet radio, Qobuz and Airplay.
For convenience reasons I’m thinking of getting the MP 200 as well.
Will I experience any sound improvements over the Chord combo? Also know that Airplay isn’t available at the MP 200.

In the case of DAC200 & MP200, the MP200 output is via the system bus into the HA200/DAC200 and limited to 192k.
You can also use the MP200's bluetooth to stream your content from mobile devices.
In my opinion, the best sound improvement is found by feeding data through the HA/DAC200's usb port, I use Roon for that.
Roon on the MP200 vs Roon core via usb ... sounds totally different.
MP200 seems more forgiving of lower Rez music, where as the DAC200 exposes the flaws.

The MP200 is a useful addition, with CD, Qobuz, Tidal, Roon, internet Radio, Bluetooth and so on. All easily controlled through the App on your phone, tablet or remote.
It would be more compelling if it also played Spotify & Apple Music. In my case I bought one 2nd hand at a good price, it adds so much extra functionality, it was a no brainer. What it can't do, I just Bluetooth to it and it sound great.
