^^ Great price on a headphone that is still one of the very best out there and now seems like a bargain compared to more recent offerings.

I have NOT been tracking prices so don't shoot me if ho hum but this looked pretty solid:

I don't think we need to constantly update on amazon scams. Especially when it's a well known and obvious scam tactic.

Suffice it to say, if the seller wants you to contact them outside of amazon or pay via gift card, its a scam. Plain and simple.

I think that it is worth noting that now at least one of these scam artists is so bold that it is listing ("currently unavailable") Oppo Blu-Rays, Yamaha Adventage receivers and  more for just $1 each with free shipping.

After the Focal Elear was released for $1000 (or less; I got them for $900), the HD800 is not such a good value, even at $875.

IMHO, Sennheiser need to drop the HD800S to $1000 now to better compete.

Perhaps for you, but the sound signature of the HD 800 is significantly different from that of the Elear.  Many will prefer one or the other at near equal prices.

For me the bigger challenge is for those trying to sell in the ~ $2,000 and up market.  The question becomes: what more are you getting for thousand(s) $ more?  At least that is a question beyond the few for whom money is no object.  Except for the size of the numbers, maybe this is just round 2 of what started when the HD 800, T1 and LCD 2 were new.

Where'd you get the Elear's for $900?

It's a funny story.  I contacted an online dealer about getting a 10% discount on a Etymotic ER4XR and they gave me a code "etymotic10".  I hadn't gotten around to buying them, but a couple weeks later I saw the dealer also sold the Elear so I tried the coupon code "focal10" and it worked!  I wasn't sure if they would honor the discount, but sure enough they shipped the headphones!  And they upgraded the shipping to two-day UPS for free!

Sadly, neither code is working now.  I suspect the dealer enables coupons when customers ask, but maybe after I stumbled on the Elear coupon, they changed the pattern they use.  I give them credit though for honoring the discount.

In my experience, you can get a discount from some dealers just by asking.  I got my SE846 for $800 by asking a dealer for 20% off, which they agreed to.  This is something I learned from musical instrument retailers, where negotiating prices is very common, and a 20% discount below MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) is easy to negotiate on expensive items.  It doesn't seem to be as common a practice amongst audio retailers though.
