V281 and HEK variants pairing is legendary.
I second the Yggy. I had the Yggy LiM paired with the V222, great synergy. Assuming it will be similar with my incoming V281.Any good DAC pairings for the V281 that stand out to compliment the warmish signature? I wish there was some smaller higher end units that could stack with this amp for desktop space reasons
Geshelli's J2 DAC (AKM 4493) worked well for me on the V222 with similar sound characteristics of the V281. However, V281 does not look wide enough to stack the J2. Geshelli does offer different options on the casing, DAC chip selection and added sockets for op-amp chip choices.Any good DAC pairings for the V281 that stand out to compliment the warmish signature? The Yggy is definitely a chunky boi, I have it set up on a separate shelf at the bottom of my stack. Heard really good things about Gesheili dacs, might be better size wise if you want to stack them. They are about the same width
Compared to the Yggy old chassis (Not my photo):
They are about the same width
The widths of V281 and of V222 are identical:They are about the same width
Go for it! It's still scheduled to be delivered by the end of the month, the email from Arthur at Powerholdings said they are sure of securing at least 50 units for the first batch. I had and loved the V222 but sold it to fund the V281 purchase. I figured I could always get another V222 but seeing as the V281 is discontinued, my only chance at snagging one is this limited release or the used market and lots of folk tend to hold on to their units. Might still repurchase the V222 for my office setup later on.Now this makes me want to reconsider the V281 Limited Edition.
** Several months before the announcement of the HPA V281 limited reissue, I purchased a HPA V281 with few hours use by original owner -- this search took a little over two years .Go for it! Yeah I saw one show up on Reverb some time ago, great condition. Before I even got my CC out it was gone** Several months before the announcement of the HPA V281 limited reissue, I purchased a HPA V281 with few hours use by original owner -- this search took a little over two years .
Thanks, yeah, I'm pretty much sold on getting the V281 LE. I'll probably order after the first batch as I need to sell off some gear. Violectric's quality and engineering is top notch. They are on the list for the NYC2024 CanJam again. It was nice meeting some of their representatives last year and I sat in on Fried Reim's presentation. Maybe they will bring a demo of the V281 LE .Go for it!
