I am a newbie and I see all these titles in this forum. First of, what is a headphonus supremus (I probably got the spelling wrong)? and how to become one?

Also attaching the "junior" title to newbies makes this forum a "GEEK World". May I request that it be dropped and just retain "member". I am sure there is a lot of qualified geeks here and I don't mean to offend anybody. I guess more appropriate titles can be used like "Audio Specialist - Headphones (Master Level)", "Audio Specialist - Portable Amplification", etc.

Thanks.

The headphoneus supremus title automatically is added to your name when you hit 1500 posts. Those with any specialitites or reputations above and beyond that gain custom titles.

The titles are all helpful (though not foolproof. A few members have gone on notable posting sprees that far exceed their experience) in letting newer members know how experienced the advice is that they are reveiving. A newer member is likely to have heard less and give less valuable opinions, whereas somebody like Jahn (top poster ever) or another of the old timers here is likely to give a view based on more experience with gear.

I do like the "Master Level" idea though. I quite fancy being a master. Sounds almost like something from a kids' martial arts cartoon!

And the balance of that is that some newer members like myself (who just went on a 24 hour posting spree to get myself past 50 posts so I could trade in the sale forums again) have been here less than five months but have been an audiophile listening to all manner of high (and not so high) end audio for the last twenty years. Some 'newer' members have more experience listening than posting (I think its partly my generation to some degree - if the sale forum 50 posts rule hadn't come along I probably would have taken almost a year to get to 50 posts!). The staff here is bribable.
I've payed in order to avoid that annoying "headphoneus supremus" title, but now I'm called a friggin "contributor".
Not that much better if you ask me.

The most honorable title you can get here is the "banned" title, but that's really expensive and also involves lots of attempts, especially if you are craving for a permanent ban.

Just post like Jahn and in 4 days you will not see the junior anymore.

Oh I really like the Master Idea!

Say that you would be master 1st Dan at 5000 posts and after that for example you get up to 8th Dan at each thousand post. When you are going to get 9th Dan Headphone Grand Master you have to do a test to validate your knowledge and experience.

Am I CRAZY!! Maybe

Indeed, I got the "Banned" title too, and had to post to 9,999 posts to get it! Curse you, Santa!

No problem, pal... and I don't think I'm not seeing your post count inching towards 19,999.

You've told him about the forum software glitch right? Personally, I can't wait to see Jahn listed as a "Junior" again.

Search this forum for "custom title" and you will find a thread by Jude from 2001 which explains the various titles.

Doing that search will also turn up various threads on headphoneous supremus and other titles -- interesting read.

And what have you got planned for Jahn then? Or do we have to just hang around and wait and see ....

As for the OP with his Master tags. Personally I think they are more geeky then having someone be a junior member when they first start. It's not like the junior tag is there for very long and it just shows that they are (relatively) new around here.
