I'm not sure if I missed it but what tubes are you currently running? Is there another thread where you covered this and the comparison with the DV? Unfortunately, Jack is currently unable to supply the 5998 tube upgrade due to a supply shortage. Any suggestions for rolling in those slots? |
Regardless, I'm pretty much decided on the WA2 and will probably order before the end of the month. I have three sets of bookshelf speakers that I will audition (AV123 Ref1's, AV123 ELT525's, Usher 520's), a pair of amps for monoblocks (with sub-outs and x-over control) and a modified XCD-88 for player duties. All of it is lower end than your excellent setup but it will be nice to leave room for the eventual upgrades! As you said, this will take, and has already taken, months.... and I'm enjoying every minute of it. |
Thanks again for your contributions to this thread. They are greatly appreciated! |

It increase in sound quality from 500 dollar amp to 5000 one is going to be in increments that should bring everything together, if done right in the more expensive amp but how much depends upon the source, cabling, and transducer. So many variables to get out the last be of refinement and ultimate sound it can't be left just to the amp and good sources aren't cheap although I do like hard drive based sound these days. I express the above based on my design and building of tube equipment and realizing that sometimes I would have to sit and listen for a while and then it would hit me, good or bad and I would go on from there. |
