Reversible AKG K701 bass mod
As someone who uses the K702 in the studio for mixing I think they get way more useable after the mod. Thing is, for studio work you must hear EVERYTHING, or as close to it as possible. I can't make decisions on stuff I can't hear, I was constantly messing up the low end of the mixes because of...- MrPhilicorda

Reversible AKG K701 bass mod
They are basically the same headphone, only difference is 702 has a detachable cable an later models have an updated headband.- MrPhilicorda

Here is a close-up. I looks like a piece of circular tape with an additional layer of fabric in the middle. My guess is the only purpose of the fabric is to cover the central part of the tape so it won't become a dust magnet.- MrPhilicorda

Reversible AKG K701 bass mod
It's an airtight tape. I think the most important thing aside from that is to find a tape that adheres strongly. Something like electrical tape would probably work but I'm afraid it would fall off after a while. Needs to be stronger. The original tape was really hard to pull off!- MrPhilicorda

Reversible AKG K701 bass mod
AKG is owned by Samsung (South Korea) so you're not far off. It would be interesting to see some measurements of the discrepancies between your K701's.- MrPhilicorda

Reversible AKG K701 bass mod
Ok, more measurements showing one simple additional mod that in my mind improves the bass mod to the point that they actually become *seriously* good. I'm doing mixing work in a studio and so far the Sennheiser HD600 have been my holy grail because they have such a natural representation...- MrPhilicorda

Reversible AKG K701 bass mod
Ok, that is more in line with what my initial impression was. I have a vague recollection that there was an official statement back in the day that the bass was slightly elevated (by 3 dB or so) but I'm not sure where I read that. Anyway, maybe that Facebook comment was made by some sales person...- MrPhilicorda

Reversible AKG K701 bass mod
Regarding the difference between K701/Q701, according to AKG themselves the only difference is cosmetic, as can be read in this Facebook post: https://www.facebook.com/pg/AKG/photos/?tab=album&album_id=425309636620 Why do people believe there is a difference? Has anyone done measurements or...- MrPhilicorda

Reversible AKG K701 bass mod
I've been curious of the bass mod for a long time and finally today I took the plunge. I did some measurements too, see below. I have the K702 but they have taken the back seat since I got the Sennheiser HD 600. The Senn's really blew my mind when I got them. Recently I felt drawn to the AKG's...- MrPhilicorda

AKG K702
I have both the K702 and HD600 and in my opinion the latter are far superior. They have a full natural sound compared to the K702 that sound kind of thin with artificial detail. The K702 have, in my opinion, some problems (dips) in the upper mids and treble that mask certain frequencies and make...- MrPhilicorda

Audio Technica ATH-M40x: The Little Brother that Could
Glad to hear you found satisfactory earpads! Just to clarify my experience with the Sound Professionals pads: I did not notice any change for the worse in terms of isolation. Even with stock pads low frequency rumble from traffic can not be blocked out, but since the stock M40x's have...- MrPhilicorda

Audio Technica ATH-M40x: The Little Brother that Could
I would recommend going open back for your second pair. Keep your M40x for the times you need isolation and a pair of open backs for when you're on your own and want a luxurious sound. You will be secretly praying for your room mate to leave so you can have a quality music moment... :) As...- MrPhilicorda

Audio Technica ATH-M40x: The Little Brother that Could
Does indeed sound very strange. You may look into BPPV disorder which leads vertigo and dizziness. It is usually triggered by certain head movements but perhaps it can be triggered by sound too. I had a friend who suffered from this a while back. Getting a bit OT here but it's certainly an...- MrPhilicorda

Audio Technica ATH-M40x: The Little Brother that Could
I haven't got nauseous from headphones ever but I can sometimes experience some weird tickling sensation in my throat (!) from some higher treble frequencies if they are exaggerated. I think the DT250 did boost the treble to some extent. Do you think it's the sound or physical comfort which is...- MrPhilicorda

I think the Sound Professionals pads are better than the DT250 pads in pretty much every way, if that was the question. But keep in mind that allthough I'm trying to describe the changes in sound as objectively as I can, your experience may be different.- MrPhilicorda
