Fiio E17 amp on AK120
You will love it! I have an AK120 going through the Fiio E17 and it is amazing. I am using Sennheiser HD650s and I love the control over eq that the E17 affords. I find the 5 band eq on the AK120 is enhanced by the bass and treble controls of the E17. Pretty good little amp for the price. I am...- TodaysTomSawyer

Monitoring with Sennheiser HD 545?
They're very similar in sound to the HD 580 set. Should be good for monitoring.- TodaysTomSawyer

Portable EQ?
I don't think it has a battery for on the go use. Otherwise, I'd consider it.- TodaysTomSawyer

Headphone recommendations to pair with the Astell & Kern AK120
I'm currently using my Sennheiser HD 545 Reference headset with the AK120 and it's doing splendidly. A rich, full spectrum catching experience when teamed up with an amp like my FiiO E17 Alpen. And there are way better amps out there that I'm sure would do better. The wonderful thing about the...- TodaysTomSawyer

The Pono Player Impressions Thread
It's NOT about making the DAP sound good. It's about compensating for a poor mixing job done by a studio producer/engineer trying to put his own stamp on the music, instead of allowing the instrumentation and/or the song speak for itself. I agree with someone's desire to want to use EQ. There...- TodaysTomSawyer

I agree with you. I don't always like the mixing job done on recordings. Especially the stuff coming out these days in the rock/folk world, which is what I listen to the most. EQ is a handy and very useful tool. It is less of an issue for me when I listen to '40s era jazz and obviously baroque...- TodaysTomSawyer

Is there any special process? Or is it just a matter of playing the Pono for 100 hours?- TodaysTomSawyer

I'm awaiting my Pono and a set of Surf Cables for a balanced out into my Sennheiser HD 545s. Hoping that will be enough!- TodaysTomSawyer

L8MDL, are you taking just the single line out side out of the Pono into the amp? Or do use the two - L and R balanced, which includes the HO and the LO - with two cables into the amp?- TodaysTomSawyer
