How Does Lavry DA11 Compare to Newer DACs?
My definition of a DAC having "accurate" frequency response, is how close its output signal is to the digital signal it is fed e.g. when a pure 200kHz digital signal of a certain amplitude is sent through the DAC, does it send out a pure 200kHz analog signal with the exact same amplitude and...- senn_liu

How Does Lavry DA11 Compare to Newer DACs?
As an additional point of discussion, do you guys think a DAC can actually advance significantly in terms of converting a 44.1kHz/16bit digital signal into an analog one accurately? Strictly speaking, in terms of measurements, most decent DACs since the days of the Benchmark DAC1 and Lavry...- senn_liu

How Does Lavry DA11 Compare to Newer DACs?
After mulling it over, I've decided to pass over the chance to get the used Lavry DA11 for $800. I do think that, purely in terms of digital signal in --> analog signal out, the DA11 probably does not lose out by much, if at all, compared to new-gen DACs. This isn't based on any critical...- senn_liu

How Does Lavry DA11 Compare to Newer DACs?
I have the opportunity to purchase a 2nd hand Lavry DA11 for around $800, which I consider a pretty good deal. However, I am aware that the Lavry was released in 2009, before the current wave of Sabre-chip/asynchronous USB DACs. Furthermore, the DA11 is pretty similar to the DA10, which is...- senn_liu

My (Non-)Experience with HeadRoom
Just an update: Mike from HeadRoom did get back to me to clarify that my order had been cancelled due to my unconfirmed shipping address - as Jamey pointed out above. Not much to be done to rectify the situation at this point, but here's the last of my correspondence with Mike (surprise...- senn_liu

My (Non-)Experience with HeadRoom
Last Saturday, I was checking out HeadRoom's site when I noticed that they had the HifiMAN He-500 listed at $499. I had been pondering a new headphone purchase and had about $400-$700 to spend, so it seemed pretty perfect. I placed my order and paid using PayPal. Then, nothing seemed to...- senn_liu

Audio-gd Phoenix balanced headphone amp.
doesn't it strike the rest of you as amusing that one of the first things kingwa has revealed about the phoenix is the panel design? maybe he's been following the compass thread closely also, think about the date...i suspect kingwa is more humorous than we know ahaha.- senn_liu

The Audio-gd Compass (Was: Designing an alternative to the Zero DAC/amp)
here's a summary of my experience regarding the knobs... i removed the input selection knob and volume knob just out of curiosity, then tried putting them back on, with these results: 1) the volume knob was a tiny bit loose. 2) the input selection knob was totally loose. tried using...- senn_liu

The Audio-gd Compass (Was: Designing an alternative to the Zero DAC/amp)
i tried the teflon plumber's tape, and it works quite well. the knob still slides a tiny bit, but i can use it to click between the input options like it is supposed to. using something like super glue or the bonding material peete mentioned would probably restore the knob to its exact...- senn_liu

the insert is firmly attached to the knob. so looks like i'll have to find a way to make the fit between the knob and the shaft tighter. tried regular clear tape, but it didn't work well. may have to find that tape which you mentioned. thanks a lot. any further suggestions are welcome.- senn_liu

the switch shaft itself works perfectly fine, so i can still toggle between the input options without the knob on. it's just that the knob doesn't grip the shaft, so it just spins on the shaft without turning it. (the knob spins but the shaft doesn't move).- senn_liu

The Audio-gd Compass (Was: Designing an alternative to the Zero DAC/amp)
guys, just for fun, i removed the input selector knob. now when i put it back, it doesn't "click" through the positions anymore. it just turns smoothly like a regular knob. that's because it isn't gripping onto the actual selector switch properly. how do i restore it to its original state i.e...- senn_liu

i followed this guide: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f46/ea...torial-402765/ the only problem i encountered was that under the step "ASIO4ALL Settings in Foobar", the compass did not show up there, only my soundcard did. however, the compass does show up in the asio4all control panel itself.- senn_liu

i just logged in to hotmail 10 minutes ago and saw an email from audio-gd with the tracking number. went to dhl's website, entered my tracking number, and just as i clicked "track", the doorbell rang, and it was the guy from dhl! never knew dhl's website had this "immediate delivery"...- senn_liu

do note that the "final" panels that are in the image i posted are mock-ups, not actual photographs of the real thing, so there is still a tiny chance that the new panels will fit onto the upgraded compasses, although that is highly doubtful due to the positioning of the rca jacks. scottieb...- senn_liu

here's a very rough side-by-side image comparison of the upgraded panels and the final ones: the old front panel is fine, but the rear just looks pretty untidy. fortunately that won't matter when i'm listening to it!- senn_liu
