    Sony MDR-M1ST - Sony's 2019 Studio Monitor Headphone

Thanks. They both have the bouncy subwoofer style bass that really feels like it is coming from the housing reflex port. Also they both deliberately avoid harsh sibilance and try not to be too fatiguing. The main difference for me is that the M1ST tries too much to be a neutral monitor, and...

    Sony MDR-M1ST - Sony's 2019 Studio Monitor Headphone

Thanks. I've been using it for a couple of weeks now and haven't found anything particularly bad. I think it is worth every dollar but it is what it is and people shouldn't expect anything extraordinary. It feels to me like a typical modern Sony sound, especially the consumer style bass might...

Chord Electronics Qutest DAC - Official Thread

I used 3V when comparing against Hugo 2, then changed to 2V subsequently since my old iFi DAC was 2V, and stuck with it. 2V felt right for me as the nominal line level expected by most amps these days so I didn't care to try and compare the sound difference. I will have to give it a try. The...

Chord Electronics Qutest DAC - Official Thread

There wasn't such a significant difference, both sounded fairly similar via RCA line out, but I did prefer the Qutest somewhat in that context. Hugo 2 brought forward the high mid too much, almost like it's competing with what the following amp is doing (Pro iCAN in this case), whereas Qutest...

Chord Electronics Qutest DAC - Official Thread

Just bought mine and very happy with it. I used to use QuteHD but wasn't too keen on the 2Qute so moved on to iFi micro iDAC2 instead, but now I'm back to the Chord camp once again. As the flashy rainbow light suggests, the sound is quite mesmerizing...

    Cascade Headphone by Campfire Audio

My personal pick would be the Cascade (and this is the Cascade thread after all). I felt quite a gap between LCD2C and the modern LCD2, so down the track I probably wouldn't feel happy about setting for LCD2C. My choice will be difficult if it was between Cascade and LCD2 (which I like a lot)...

    Cascade Headphone by Campfire Audio

I have the Cascade and iSINE20, and they are totally different in concept so it's really hard to compare. Cascade is very forgiving in the listening environment and the fit around your head, whereas for iSINE you really have to be in a super quiet room and the fit has to be spot on. I think most...

    Cascade Headphone by Campfire Audio

I did compare and preferred the Cascade. I like the P5-II and P7 so I also tried to like the P9 but wasn't quite right for me. P9 and Cascade do feel somewhat similar (much more so than P7), but I noticed that Cascade is more consistent and coherent all the way through the frequency range, and...

    Cascade Headphone by Campfire Audio

I just bought the Cascade and I'm really happy with it. It's pretty energetic with lots of bass and full of exciting overtones, so my mind tells me that this should sound "wrong", but somehow my heart says it's great. In particular the focus and imaging is very consistent for this kind of...

Can Con Sydney Australia 7.5 Impressions Thread

Some photos I took The biggest highlight for me was the combined effort of three members: Abyss + Woo WA5 (with fancy tubes) + Accuphase DC-37 DAC. I really loved the sound of Accuphase DAC, but it's way too high end for me to afford. It was a rare opportunity to listen to it properly.

Just a reminder that if you are bringing mains powered devices (e.g. computer, amp), then you will need to bring a power board and an extension cable of your own. The nearest wall socket will be a few metres away.

Great. I've just added you to the list of attendees. You should try out a bunch of different amps at the meet with the DT990.

SRM-007tA is a single layer board with through-hole parts so shouldn't be too hard to fix. The only expensive/proprietary bit is the big transformer, so as long as that is OK then the other bits should be fairly easy to source. If the capacitor has blown for no reason, then there might be other...

I've just updated the list of what I can bring on the first page. Depends on how much will fit in the car... As usual, if anybody wants minor repairs done or specific adapters/cables made up then please let me know.
