    Audeze MM-100

    Has anyone had a problem with the right channel fading out a bit? Mine starts out fine but after a while, if I move my head or shift the headphone a bit, I can “hear” movement in the diaphragms and the sound shifts to the left.

    FiiO = FT5 Planar : Initial Impressions

    Ahh yes thank you. I’ve never experienced such a variety of options in a $400 headphone before. Well done Fiio.

    FiiO = FT5 Planar : Initial Impressions

    I just got my FT5 and the cable has the wrong plug on the end. Can’t use a 1/4” adapter to use in my amps.

    FiiO&JadeAudio Over-Ear Headphones Discussion & Impressions Thread

    Thank you. Mine indicates nothing, except the L/R markings on the center pivot. So I’m assuming it’s the original 350 ohm. Plus it’s hard to drive.

    How do I know whether my FT3 is 32 ohm or 350? Can’t see anything on the box, manual or FT3 itself.

    Neumann NDH 30

    I was being a bit facetious. There is no veil. Just pure tone. If chocolate, you taste cocoa, not sugar. I’d say for those who want “tonality accurate”, probably the way to go. Just don’t expect the NDH30 to entertain.

    Perhaps it’s the Neumann veil, and could be alleviated by replacing the orange felt in front of the drivers with a thin foam.

    THE COMPOSER OPEN BACK FLAGSHIP by AUSTRIAN AUDIO

    Meze kinda did that, going from the 99 Classics to The Empyrean.

    Neumann NDH 30

    It is rather bland, blase, and nondescript. But that was the point of the exercise. It’s an open back studio monitor. Whatever judgements are made using it have to translate to the outside world and whatever other gear. Many will be satisfied with the NDH30 for its “just the facts” and “do no...

    THE COMPOSER OPEN BACK FLAGSHIP by AUSTRIAN AUDIO

    I never thought I’d read a statement like this regarding ‘headphones’.

    IMO the only differences in cables are in construction, microphonics, weight and flexibility.

    How was the soundstage?

    Not sure why comparisons to the HD800s ever materialized in the first place. They have nothing to do with each other. The HD800s creates a false illusion of space with exaggerated soundstage by placing the drivers well away from the ears. Closest Sennheiser comparison might be the HD 650 and HD700.

    Audeze MM-100

    I wasn’t happy about the long delays (and eventually canceled my preorder) but I guess these kinds of bugs are not unusual when you outsource a product to be built somewhere else. There are warranties, you will be taken care of, and you pay $399 instead of $799 made in-house. Having said that...

    Yamaha YH-5000SE — a flagship from an orthodynamic headphones veteran!

    They made one back in 1977. Pure orthodynamic pleasure for $65. After my KOSS HV-1A, it was like taking a pebble out of my shoe. Still have two pairs.

    HEDD Announces HEDDphone With AMT Technology

    A different sound or different presentation are what provide audio thrills and part of the reason why we retain enthusiasm. I mean, you can’t put, say, a Utopia beside, say, the new Yamaha and claim that if one of them is “right”, the other must be “wrong”. Or tubes vs. ss. It’s whatever keeps...

    HEDD Announces HEDDphone With AMT Technology

    There’s almost a rule of thumb now that the heavier a non-dynamic (or non-‘stat) headphone is, the more likely there will be an upper midrange/lower treble dip (and I’ve had way too many of those). Everything else looks quite good though.
