Modifying the Xiang Sheng 708B [56K!!!!]

Today I actually found the CD that had all the old pics on it and I'm beginning the long process of adding them to my gallery and editing in new links. Even though this is a legacy thread, having it back to 100% will help me sleep a little better at night, lol.

Modifying the Xiang Sheng 708B [56K!!!!]

I still have all the original pictures on a CD-ROM in storage somewhere. Someday I'd like to re-upload them to this thread as attachments instead of hosted images. :)

    Anyone out there riding motorcycles?

I have a Shoei GT Air helmet and my brother bought me a Sena SMH10R bluetooth headset system to go with it. For about a year and a half I used the standard speaker drivers that come with it. They sounded like crap, were harsh, had no bass since they're just free floating and the wind noise is...

Powered Speakers for computer office setup, low volume listening (Adam a5x, swan m200mkiii?)

The A3X uses class A/B amplification for the mid-woofer whereas the A5X uses PWM, so this makes sense.  Also Stereolink is a super handy feature for sure.  It gets used all the time when I take my A5Xs to friends houses.   Quote:

    Modifying the Sonic Impact T-Amp & 41Hz AMP6

Here's the final amp that ended up going out to my friend. It's a simple build using a Hammond cast AL project box, ALPS Blue Velvet pot, Mundorf M-Cap input caps, Connex binding posts, Calrad RCA Jacks, and Neotech PVC wire throughout. And the best thing about this one is that it actually...

Modifying the Xiang Sheng 708B [56K!!!!]

nikongod, So how did the CCS affect the SQ? In the end which way do you prefer: res/cap bypass, LED, or CCS? Would you mind posting some pics of this latest addition when you get a chance. Cloth Ears, What size uF output caps are you using? I'm wondering how much deep bass I've been...

    Cheap DIY Computer Speakers

This is the next evolution of the acoustic membrane(Saran Wrap) idea from above. I've been wanting to go all out with this idea and build a significant portion of the sealed enclosure using tightly stretched plastic sheet. In a sense it's now a semi-sealed, open-baffle speaker or...

Finally, the long over due update on this project. Long story short, I did eventually end up finishing the AMP6 project, but unfortunately the left channel had 13VDC on its output when I fired it up. I'm still not exactly sure what the issue is. All the component orientations and values were...

    where to buy gold wire?

I just stumbled upon another source for pure gold/Teflon insulated wire: A-M Systems | Teflon® Insulated Gold Wire At 41ga it's pretty fine, but it might make interesting phono or internal signal wire. Edit: There's another thread on this here.

I finally ordered a replacement for the stock 6N3 I've been running this whole time. Nothing fancy for now, merely a JAN-5670W. I've been putting this off for so long I just wanted to get something, anything. I also ended up rewiring the entire amp a while back with 20 and 18 awg PVC Neotech...

New Speakers. What to get ?

Most all computer speaker systems will have the sub tuned to be boomy as well as use low quality drivers and amplifiers in general so if clarity is what you seek I'd go in a completely different direction. Maybe something like the M-Audio DX5a or another similar powered studio monitor.
