Comparison to

BQEYZ K2 [USD41.24 currently]

BQEYZ K2 is a 2DD + 2BA IEM, has been a favourite in my collection item for quite a while. Due to its budget friendly price and sound performance, it has been many’s favourite keeper as well. However when A/B with CCA DUO, the DUO is tuned with more bass, thus exhibit more sub bass rumble and mid bass thump which is more satisfying and enjoyable, the K2 bass has sub bass roll off and may sound a little hollow or wooly as compared. The K2 has 2BA for mids and highs which may seems to be an advantage, however, the DUO is tuned very well for both mids and highs, it is definitely no slough when compared.

Final Thoughts

CCA DUO at the current discount of USD10 at USD29, it is probably one of the most budget set of 2DD in the market now. There is little flaw and tick many boxes in sound performance over the price. Thank you for reading and enjoy your music guys.

They really nail the tuning on these. Plus their High Mid DD seems to be more linear in the upper treble than the other dual DD IEM.

Technically good, well tuned and Versatile tuning [with 4 switch]

Overall Tonality and Timbre
– Sound Signature is bright with good Weight Tone and Clarity. Overall is Well Balanced tuned set, organic and natural, clean and clear.

Bass – Bass transient speed is fast and snappy and clean, on the leaner side, well controlled and accurate, kick drum and strikes are precise. Sounds quite natural and organic, not Basshead level on Low Sub Bass Rumble on neutral setting. Thus no bass bleed, clean sounding.

Mids – Male and Female vocals are organic natural sounding, forward sounding with good weight tone and clarity.

Treble - Instruments separation and imaging are clear and concise, accurate and precise, cymbals and high hats are good, have good micro details and nuances.

KZ Krila with 4 switch [USD20.00 currently]

Comparison to

Sony XBA N3 AP [USD330 currently]

Sony XBA N3 AP has 1DD + 1BA covering full range sound spectrum, so when A/B with KZ Krila, Sony BA sound and quality is well recognised to be one of the best, in terms of clarity and resolution, N3 is tuned with a bit more bass, being a bass lover, enjoy the rumble and thump more, with not much bass bleed present, mids is clear and crisp, and high are extended well, details are good. Overall the N3 exhibit more silky smooth and easy listening pleasure.

Final Thoughts

KZ Krila has 4 tuning switch and basically tuned well to be regarded as a Value Performance over Price Ratio set. Recommended if looking for a 1DD+1BA budget value performance set.

Joyodio VZ10 with 8 switch [USD79.00 currently]

Comparison to

FiiO FH5 [USD299.00]

FiiO FH5 bass is a little bit shy compared to the VZ10, VZ10 bass have slightly more body and weight. Due to the dampening of the BAs, on same volume, FH5 will sound louder. If VZ10 volume is tuned up to match FH5, it may seems the Knowles BAs of FH5 may be more open and at same time may sounds more bright and sibilant.

Final Thoughts

Joyodio VZ10 is tuned pretty well and do not have sibilance which is what I like about it. In terms of Bass, mids and treble, I will say it is very safe tuning most people will not find offensive. At this price point, it is worth consideration if looking for a 1DD+4BAs.

Sound Impression :

Technically good, well tuned and Versatile tuning [with 8 switch version]

Overall Tonality and Timbre
– Sound Signature is warm with good Weight Tone and Clarity. Overall is Well Balanced tuned set, organic and natural, clean and clear.

Bass – Bass transient speed is fast and snappy and clean, on the leaner side, well controlled and accurate, kick drum and strikes are precise. Sounds quite natural and organic, close to DD, not Basshead level on Low Sub Bass Rumble on neutral setting. Thus no bass bleed which is a good thing.

Mids – Male and Female vocals are organic natural sounding, forward sounding with good weight tone and clarity.

Treble
- Instruments separation and imaging are clear and concise, accurate and precise, cymbals and high hats are good, have good micro details and nuances.

Soundstage is good in width, depth and height.

All testing are done using the stock tips and cable.

KZ AS24 with 8 switch [USD114.00 currently]

Comparison to

TRN BA5 [USD45.00 currently]

TRN BA5 is tuned with more Bass and on the brighter side [compared with KZ AS24 on neutral setting], AS24 have the upper edge with 12BAs [compared to 5BAs], thus can hear more micro details and nuances.

Sony XBA100 [discontinued, USD200 on eBay]

Sony XBA100 has only 1BA covering full range sound spectrum, so when A/B with 12BAs AS24, will sound like 2D one dimensional though Sony BA sound and quality is well recognised to be one of the best, in terms of clarity and resolution.

SeeAudio Bravery [USD280.00 currently]

SeeAudio Bravery have 4 BAs of Knowles and Sonion, comes with 6N OCC Hakugei cable and Premium Azla Xelastec Sednafit ear tips. On A/B comparison with KZ AS24, again the AS24 with 12 BAs have the upper edge of displaying more micro details and nuances. Both sets have similar sound signature, on the warmer side as compared to the other 2 sets.

Final Thoughts

KZ AS24 on first listen, I was quite impressed with the neutral Harmanish warm sound signature on the neutral setting, no peaky or sibilance, that might offend some sensitive ears. There is no metallic timbre which I dread on all BAs set, which is a pleasant surprise to my ears finally. In the market currently, to have a 12BAs set that is tuned well and priced at this price point, I would say this is an easy recommendation to those that longs to land their hands on an ALL BAs set.

Some of tracks used –

Virtual Reality and Acoustic Guitar Guy – Instrumental only, etc..

Sound Impression :

Overall Tonality and Timbre
– This is a bright Energetic and Dynamic, Good Weight Tone, Good Clarity and fun musical set.

Bass – Can hear and feel Low sub bass rumble for sure, mid bass is textured, well controlled and accurate, kick drum and strikes are precise. Very Enjoyable, Bass Head qualified set.

Mids – Female and Male vocals are organic natural and forward sounding with good weight tone and clarity. Not much mid bass bleed or muddiness, well tuned on that aspect.

Treble - Instruments separation and imaging are clear and concise, accurate and precise, cymbals and high hats are good, have adequate micro details. Sensitive ears might have slight sibilance on 5K.

Soundstage is average in width, depth and height. Fit and isolation is pretty good.

All testing are done using the stock tips and cable.

KZ EDXS [USD11] Comparison to

KZ D-Fi with switch [USD27] – KZ EDXS have better low sub bass rumble, which can be heard and felt in ears, more enjoyable and fulfilling for Bass Head standard.

Tripowin TC01 [USD49] – TC01 have more mid bass but in terms of low sub bass rumble, EDXS is indeed more enjoyable and fulling in audible senses.

Reecho SG03 [USD69] – SG03 have more low sub bass and is still my favourite budget low sub bass monster, EDXS comes very close to it, tick the box for the low sub bass performance.

Final Thoughts

All 4 sets have bright sound signature. In terms of bass response, it will depend on individual, the quantity amount of low sub bass and mid bass level, which listener appreciate more. Mid vocals are good on all 4 sets, clean clear sounding without much bleeding and muddiness. Treble extension quite similar on the 3 sets, except KZ D-Fi which has switch option if required.

The KZ EDXS has become one of my favourite versatile single dynamic driver set, in terms of overall tuning, on their recent releases, to date.

I really appreciate you reviewing and even more importantly, measuring this IEM….but man. that graph is ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS. Dude that is a 15 decibel speak at 5khz. this is beyond embarrassing for KZ especially after such good releases like the ZVX and D-Fi.

Shame on you KZ. this kind of defective tuning is not acceptable at any price point

Fast Clean Planar with Warm Sounding Signature

Overall Tonality and Timbre
– Sound Signature is warm with adequate Weight Tone and Clarity. Overall is Well Balanced tuned set, organic and natural, clean and clear.

Bass – Planar Bass transient speed is fast and snappy and clean, on the leaner side, well controlled and accurate, kick drum and strikes are precise. No distortion but Not Basshead level though.

Mids – Male and Female vocals are organic natural sounding, pretty forward sounding with adequate weight tone and clarity. Just a little veil as compared though.

Treble - Instruments separation and imaging are clear and concise, accurate and precise, cymbals and high hats are good, have adequate micro details, have the decent planar characteristics.

Soundstage is not the widest in width, depth and height. Not 3D holographic or spacious enough as compared.

All testing are done using the stock tips and cable.

KZ x HBB PR2 [USD39.00 currently]

Comparison to

KZ PR1 PRO [USD69.00 currently]

PR1 PRO comes with a better braided stock cable. On critical listening and A/B, PR1 PRO sounds brighter and have more air on the top end thus present itself with more 3D spaciousness, just slightly.

LetShuoer S12 PRO [USD135.00 currently]

S12 PRO comes with full metal alloy built IEM and modular plug system 2.5BAL, 3.5SE and 4.4BAL cable. S12 PRO have the brightest thus exhibit better clarity on comparison of the 3 sets.

Final Thoughts

All 3 sets have exhibited the good characteristics of a capable planar magnetic IEM, in terms of bass, all can deliver the fast and clean planar bass without distortion. In terms of mid vocal, all 3 sets can deliver clean and clear vocals, male and female, S12 PRO being my most preferred as I generally like mid-centric set more out of the 3 spectrum in an IEM. Lastly, treble wise, all 3 sets have performed adequate enough for a planar, S12 PRO still my more preferred, then PR1 PRO and PR2.

KZ x HBB PR2 is the most affordable planar magnetic in the market currently, the sound performance justify for its price definitely.

Thank you. Usually I match bright iems with warmer source and tips if need to tone down, like warm but not too dark

Bass – Probably the feature of this set. With 4 switch at 1 dB boost of Bass each. Bass transient speed is fast and snappy and clean, on the leaner side, well controlled and accurate, kick drum and strikes are precise.

Mids – Male and Female vocals are organic natural sounding, forward sounding with good weight tone and clarity, not in the face overly though.

Treble - Instruments separation and imaging are clear and concise, accurate and precise, cymbals and high hats are good, have adequate micro details, it is only 1DD covering the full range spectrum, decent.

Soundstage is not the widest in width, depth and height that I heard. Not 3D holographic or spacious enough for those that might prefer though there is an open vent on the top faceplate.

All testing are done using the stock tips and cable.

KZ D-Fi with 4 switch [USD33.74 currently]

Comparison to

Moondrop SSP [USD39.99]

My first initial listening impression of the KZ D-Fi makes me think of my Moondrop SSP due to the tuning. This set sound signature is quite alike those set of my bright DD coated, graphene Reecho SG01, titanium SG03 or beryllium SSP. The similar characteristics of all these coated DDs sets all have good clean clear sound, especially in the mid vocals, and the high treble region on the instrumentals. Good imaging and separation with adequate resolution and micro details. SSP is relatively more difficult to drive, needs a good amplifier for sure.

Final Thoughts

Personally I am not a big fan of IEM with tunable option, though is appreciated if provided with very great difference on each of the tunable option, which I do not know if it is possible? Will be pleased if the set offer good value over performance, well built IEM, with decent tips and cable provided and of course good tuning and sound performance utmost importance in the least.

KZ ZVX [USD19.90] Comparison to

KZ Ling Long [USD15] – handle low sub bass best of the 3 sets, sounds a little more spacious, fixed cable [minus for some], bonus nice iem case [plus for some].

KZ DQS [USD13] – better low sub bass, a little boomy, less clarity, sounds a little more spacious, interchangeable cable [vs LingLong].

Final Thoughts

KZ releases 3 sets of 1 DD in recent times, first is the KZ DQS, which is with low sub bass, but suffer bass bleed and less clarity. Secondly, the KZ LingLong also with low sub bass but with fixed cable at a lower price point though.

KZ ZVX is probably the most well balanced tuned set of the 3 sets, clean and fast snappy bass, mid vocal that are clean and clear with good weight tone, and best clarity of the 3 sets, considering this is a only 1 DD set which handle the full range, I am quite impressed with the overall sound impression and delivery, will recommend this set at this price point without any doubts.

Sound Impression :

Overall Tonality and Timbre
- sounds organic and natural and smooth. The 6mm single dynamic driver deliver Low Sub Bass with rumble, mid bass slams hard and deep, is fast and snappy. The treble is good in imaging, instrument separation and adequate micro details.

Bass – can deliver Low Sub Bass with Rumble, the bass transient speed is fast and snappy. The bass is actually well controlled and accurate, kick drum and strikes are quite precise.

Mids – female vocals are natural and forward sounding with good weight tone. Male vocal sounds a bit nasal.

Treble - instruments separation and imaging are clear and concise, accurate and precise, cymbals and high hats are good, have adequate micro details.

Soundstage is considered good average in width, average in depth and height.

All testing are done using the stock tips.

KZ Ling Long Comparison to

Tanchjim Tanya as compared is a warmer sounding set, thicker sounding weight tone in vocal, background music and darker tonality in overall presentation.

Final Audio E1000 as compared is a more neutral sounding set without the Low Sub Bass Rumble, same quality in bright and clear sound with wide soundstage.

Final Thoughts

This is a good tuning set for those that enjoy Low Sub Bass, fast and snappy Bass that hits hard and deep. Mid Vocal are represented well, crisp and clear, bright and organic. I prefer the Female Vocal more than the Male. Treble highs are good with adequate micro details and resolution. In terms of Value over Performance, play most music genre well, this is a no brainer, for those without such a set in their collection.

Have these on hands now, tuning wise seem perfect for me, but the bass actually seem to be not fast/snappy, but on a slow/sluggish side. But I don't have sub-100 sets on me to compare. Waiting for bass attack comparisons on Linglong vs, say, Hola, QKZxHBB, MT4 and other budget DD sets.
eagleowl
eagleowl
Please try on a more powerful amplifier, sometimes if slow/sluggish may be due to the power supply to the dynamic driver.

My first set have failed (driver died after making a driver flex sound) after a month and i've heard of someone else having a similar experience. Keen to hear from others if their sets die similar, abnormally quick deaths as i suspect the constant driver flex is doing them in.

Sound Impression :

Overall Tonality and Timbre
- sounds organic and natural and smooth. The 7mm single dynamic driver is good and capable, taking care and delivery of good Bass, slams hard and deep, fast and snappy, however lacking Sub Bass, do not have the Sub Bass rumble. The 2 BAs 29689 and 30019, deliver good mid vocal in crisp and clear, organic and natural tonality. The treble is good in imaging, instrument separation and micro details.

Bass – the bass transient speed is fast and snappy. The bass is actually well controlled and accurate, kick drum and strikes are quite precise. Sub bass roll off, lacking and will not satisfy Bassheads.

Mids – both male and female vocals are natural and forward sounding with good weight tone. Slight 3K peak, not sibilant for me, but to some may pose a little ‘brightish’.

Treble - instruments separation and imaging are clear and concise, accurate and precise, yet not sibilant, cymbals and high hats are good, extend well and good micro detail.

Soundstage is considered good above average in width, depth and height. Top end airiness is good above average in producing 3D holographic effect.

All testing are done using the stock starline and the 2 other silicon tips and stock cable.

Joyodio Shine Comparison to

KZ ZAR – Shine in terms of tuning, overall sounds better in lesser bass bleed, cleaner and better clarity, resulting in better resolution and crispy-ness. Soundstage and imaging is better too.

TRN VX Pro – Shine tuning is as bright and transparent, however Shine has the switch that can fine tune to different situation and music to its advantage. Not that sibilant as compared.

Final Thoughts

This is a good tuning set for those that enjoy fast and snappy Bass that hits hard and deep. However Bass-head may miss that low sub rumble. Mid Vocal are represented well, crisp and clear, bright and organic. Imaging is great. Treble highs are well extended with good micro details and resolution. In terms of Value, Versatility and Budget set that can suit most music genre, this is a win.

Comparison to BLON BL03
I have specifically bought and kept the BLON BL03 as my reference set to do A/B comparison to all budget single dynamic driver set.

The KZ DQS has scored pretty high score against the BLON BL03 in terms of timbre, tonality, bass, mids, treble, soundstage, imaging, instrument separation amd weight tone.

Final Thoughts

This is a good tuning set for those that enjoy fast amd snappy Bass. Mids Vocal are represented well, crisp and clear, bright and quite organic. Treble highs are well extended with good micro details and resolution at the price point.

It is curious how they continue mounting the "3D inner bracket" that supported the two smaller dynamic controllers that made up the matrix for treble in the previous version of the DQ6S x HBB (of which after the controversy because they were almost inaudible / were clogged by glue / "didn't work" the Hawaiian renegade)

CCA HM20 - 1DD +7BAs IEM
Pros: Bass hits hard and deep, good texture and impact
Mids vocal are pretty crisp and clear, forward sounding
Treble extend well and has good resolution
Cons: Bass extend all the way to 1K, a little too overbearing, may cause Mids Vocal to sound a little weird at times, nasal and husky, will present a flock of Haze, misty feeling, the effect of the bass always present in the mix feeling

Sound Impression :

Tonality and Timbre
- sounds rather organic and natural despite it's a DD+multi BAs set, kinda smooth and silky flowing sounding

Bass - this may be the strength and weakness of this set, good quantity and quality thus is thumpy and slamming, hits hard and deep, transient speed is fast and snappy, yet decay too much to the 1K region. The bass is actually well controlled and accurate, kick drum and strikes are quite precise. Bass lovers will definitely like and enjoy this set. Imapctful.....lol

Mids - vocals are actually enjoyable on this set, kinda of clean, clear and concise voice. Brightness and tonality is just correct with organic and natural feel, however due to extended bass, there is a slight veil, mist or haze present in the mix, a little pity IMHO....

Treble - instruments seperation and imaging are clear and concise, accurate and precise, yet not sibilant, cymbals and high hats are great due to the Multi BAs, extend well and lots of micro details, resolving and very enjoyable.

Soundstage is considered moderately wide in width, average wise in depth and height. Instruments seperation and imaging is good as well. Resolution and precision is above average. Cohesion of the DD and multi BAs are done pretty well.

Changed the tips to Spinfit CP100+ and CP145 which is much better in pivotting, flexibility to direct the nozzle into the ears, the provided silicon tips sometimes will hinder and not give a proper seal and isolation.

Changed the stock cable 3.5SE to a balanced 4.4 pure silver cable to achieve better power and sound transfer.

Comparison to TRN VX PRO

TRN VX PRO does not have that veil mist haze, sounds much more crisp and clear, more transparent and forward sounding in comparison. However those that are sensitive to treble high will find it a little sibilant, and therefore the CCA HM20 will be a better choice in these scenario.

Final Thoughts

CCA HM20 will be much suitable to Music Genres like Pop, New Waze, Instrumental, EDM, and less so for Classical.

This is a pretty good tuning set for those that enjoy Bassy, hit hard and deep, thumpy and slamming. Mids Vocal that are presented well, crisp and clear, bright and quite organic. Treble highs that are well extended to enjoy a lot of fine micro details and resolution at the price point.

Packaging / Presentation :

Packaging wise is standard small little white cardbox, IEMs are resin built with metal alloy faceplate. This package comes with 3 pairs of thermoplastic slow rebound foam tips in S M & L , stock cable is 8 core braided silver plated, feel is soft and flexible.

Equipment used / Music choices :

ASUS Laptop with Realtek Soundcard - xDuoo TA05 tube amp, FSA Beyond HD amp and Supplier HD Linear Supply
iMac - Linux - RPI4 8GB - Volumio Spotify Connect - Topping DX3PRO - L30
iMac - Linux - RPI4 8GB - Volumio Spotify Connect - ifi Zen Dac v2.0 - ifi Zen Can

LG G7+ / Samsung Note8 / iPhone11 - Apple Dongle [UAPP / Tidal] 3.5mm SE, Samsung Dongle, X1, CXpro, Shangling UP5

Music Tracks - variety of EDM, pop, jazz, country, instrumentals, audiophile male/female, chinese / cantonese favourites.
Some of tracks used -
I'm Good - David Guetta and Bebe Rexha, Dancing in the Dark - LOLO, Charger [ft. Charli XCX] - ELIO, Islands in the Stream - Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, Dire Straits - Tunnel of Love, Billie Ellish - Happier Than Ever, Aha - Hunting High and Low, Camomile - Fields of Gold, Chicago - You are the Inspiration, Depeche Mode - Strange Love, Eagles - Hotel California, Ed Sheeran - I Don't Care, Fleetwood Mac - Big Love, Glass Tiger - Thin Red Line, etc..

Sound Impression :

Tonality and Timbre
- sounds pretty neutral, balanced and smooth, not metallic nor sibilant.

Bass - this is perharps the strength of this set, good quantity and quality thus is thumpy and slamming, also due to planar driver, transient speed is fast and snappy. The bass is actually well controlled and accurate, kick drum and strikes are quite precise. Bass lovers will definitely like and enjoy this set. Eargasm......

Mids - female and male vocals are very enjoyable on this set, delivery is clean, clear and concise voice. Brightness and tonality is just right. female vocals will sound better for this set especially, on my preference for audiophile female singers.

Treble
- instruments are clear and concise, accurate yet not sibilant, cymbals and high hats are good and can be heard in their respective area.

Soundstage is considered moderately wide in width, average wise in depth and height. Instruments seperation is done pretty well, will suffer slightly if it is a fast and busy track. Resolution and precision is above average.

Not a big fan of foam tips, will seal and isolate very well, however it sounds very close up and congested to me, change to wide bore voice tips increase the experience, more open and organic.

The 8 core braided silver plated cable seems to pair well with the IEM, feel on cable is soft and flexible, good to the touch.

Comparison to Letshuoer S12Pro

KZ PR1 Pro's MSRP at USD 80 is significantly lower than Letshuoer S12Pro at USD 169.

However, the overall package of S12Pro comes with a better built IEM fully metal alloy shell, modular changeable plug 2.5bal, 3.5SE and 4.4bal connectors, 3 foam tips and 6 silicon tips, and a hard shell carrying case.

Sonically, the bass of PR1pro can match the S12pro in terms of quantity and quality, transient speed of the planar drivers is as fast and accurate. The mids on PR1pro on itself is considered good, however when A/B with S12pro, will hear a midbass bleed which will give a slight veil. The same goes for the treble, S12pro will present a better clarity and resolution, even in fast and busy tracks.

Conclusion

I personally consider KZ has done a pretty good work on this KZ PR1Pro, developing their own planar driver and tuning to such a mature state. Congratulations and keep up the good work. KZ/CCA has been in market long history of producing budget affordable good products for the masses.

Packaging / Presentation :

Packaging wise is standard small little white cardbox, IEMs are resin built with fin in the black option. This package comes with 3 pairs of normal bore, stock cable seems to be soft and flexible.

Sound Impression :

Timbre and Tonality is pretty good, natural and organic.

The 3 sections of Bass, Mids and Treble each perform their parts pretty well.

The Bass is thumpy, slam when required, however the midbass bleed cause a little veil.

Male and Female Vocals are presented quite well, clear and clean and natural.

Treble for instruments are quite good, however there is a roll off, thus the resolution and precision is not best in class.

Soundstage is considerably good width, height and depth.

Imaging and instrument seperation can be better, satisfactory for the budget price it is offering currently.

New Head-Fier
KZ x HBB DQ6S iem
Pros: Good pronounced bass - low sub and mid bass
Clean Clear Mids Vocals - not recessed nor veiled
Treble Extension is good enough - details and seperation is adequate
Cons: Needs amping to shine and thus better soundings
Existing Nozzle shaft diameter a little small, need find suitable tips
Only 3 pairs of narrow bore silicon tips are provided, lack wide bore
KZ x HBB DQ6s IEM

Packaging / Presentation :

Packaging wise is standard KZ small little white cardbox, IEMs are resin built with either black or pink faceplate option. This package comes with only 3 pairs of white narrow bore and 1 pair of foam tips, wished they have included some wide bore tips which i preferred when i tested them. However the stock cable seems to be a little softer and flexible as compared to previous edition.

Equipment used / Music choices :

iMac - Linux - RPI4 8GB - Volumio Spotify Connect - Topping DX3PRO - L30
iMac - Linux - RPI4 8GB - Volumio Spotify Connect - ifi Zen Dac v2.0 - ifi Zen Can
Sony walkman A55 with Fiio A5 Portable Amplifier / Fiio M9 DAP 3.5mm SE, 2.5mm Bal
LG G7+ / Samsung Note8 / iPhone11 - Apple Dongle [UAPP / Tidal] 3.5mm SE, Samsung Dongle, X1, CXpro, Shangling UP5

Sound Impression :

Timbre is natural and organic due to the 3 dynamics driver used - 1x10mm and 2x6mm. Coherence of the 3 drivers are considered good, quite smooth transition and flowing.

Tonality is a V shaped, bassy not muddy with good low sub and mid bass, slammed pounding hard when required. No bleeding were heard which will muffled the mids vocal is a very good thing i noticed. Mids Vocal of Male and Female are basically considered clean and clear [even with bass in background], it is not recessed nor veiled. In group, both lead and back up singers voices are still clearly seperated and heard clearly. As for the High Treble section [as seen in the FR], this is a very well tuned no sibilance to sensitive hearing ears which some might prefer. To me, there is adequate details and seperation on the instrumentals.

Soundstage is not the widest which some may prefer, enough width, not much height nor depth though.

Conclusion :

I think KZ has found a good tuning for the DQ6S which i will consider satisfy me on the 3 area of sound, bass mids treble are a tick in the box for my liking, including the timbre and tonality. Will gladly recommend this model as a safe bet for a wide range of music genres lovers.

How different this HBB version from the original DQ6 that I have? I understand bass should be boosted. Would be great to see a graph of the 2 compared....

New Head-Fier
The new TRN TA - a more Warm and Bassy TA1
Pros: Warm and Bassy Sound Signature
No sibilance noted, safe tuning for wide genre of music
Normal IEM shape, better fit and isolation preferred
Cons: Midbass bleeds causing nasal vocals
Early treble roll off, can be better if not the case
Plastic resin not as premium material from former metal alloy [TA1]
TRN TA - 1DD [8mm dynamic] + 1BA [knowles 33518]

Disclaimer: Thank you and kudos to TRN and Sir Larry Fulton for arranging this review unit, based on own observation with no affiliation nor obligation.

Packaging / Presentation

IEM is built in resin and similar to the MT1 shell , 0.78mm 2pin TFZ raised connector preferred, end with 3.5SE L shaped, accessories is minimum, normal slight improved stock black TRN cable, 3 pairs silicon tips.

Equipment used :
iMac - Linux - RPI4 8GB - Volumio Tidal Connect - Topping DX3PRO - L30
iMac - Linux - RPI4 8GB - Volumio Tidal Connect - ifi Zen Dac v2.0 - Xduoo TA05 Tube Amp
Sony walkman A55 3.5mm SE / Fiio M9 DAP 3.5mm SE, 2.5mm Bal
LG G7+ / Samsung Note8 [UAPP / Tidal] 3.5mm SE, Samsung Dongle, X1, CXpro

Music Tracks - variety of pop, jazz, country, instrumentals, audiophile male/female, chinese / cantonese favourites.
Some of tracks used -
Dire Straits - Tunnel of Love, Billie Ellish - Happier Than Ever, Aha - Hunting High and Low, Camomile - Fields of Gold, Chicago - You are the Inspiration, Depeche Mode - Strange Love, Eagles - Hotel California, Ed Sheeran - I Don't Care, Fleetwood Mac - Big Love, Glass Tiger - Thin Red Line, etc..

Sound Impression / Comparison with TA1 and TA2

Tonality is warm and bassy with good mid bass and little sub bass rumble. Bass Quantity over quality, ie. can be better, speed is normal, when especially play back a very Bassy and Busy instruments track, mid bass bleeds occur. Vocals can sound a bit nasal. Weight tone is good and forward sounding Imaging and instrument seperation is good average based on the performance of the knowles 33518 BA.

TA1 is more mid centric with more crisp clear and clean vocal [both male / female]. TA has more midbass, bass will sound more full and slam, but bleeds into vocal occurs. [similarily the case for TA2]. TA soundstage will sound wider and better extended than TA2.

Timbre is quite natural sounding with a tint of metallic, very slightly. Male / Female vocals presentation is acceptable in most tracks, except when tracks that are heavier in bass [bleeding can be heard, vocal sounds nasal].

TA1 timbre sounds more organic and natural as compared to both TA and TA2.

TA Soundstage is normal wide and acceptable. Width, height and depth performs better than TA2, treble roll off somehow affects the sparkle and airyness, just slightly. Both TA and TA1 soundstage sounds and appear wider than TA2.

Conclusion

TRN TA is positioned as the most budget wise set in the TRN TA series. For a warm and bassy sound signature with no sibiliance at this price point is a good consideration for a wide range of music genre as well. TA2 with 2 knowles BA is a better and pretty attractive IEM with focus in its weight tone and concentration in sounding but sacrifies a bit soundstage in return. Mid bass bleed and early treble roll off are both the traits found both in TA and TA2. For those more into mid centric vocals the TA1 is still the best choice IMHO.

New Head-Fier
TRN TA2 - 1 DD + 2 BA [Knowles]
Pros: Warm and Bassy set - musical and enjoyable
Good Mid Centric Vocals - clean clear presentation male/female
IEM Good nice built, 2pin recessed preferred, adequate accessories for price point
Cons: Mid Bass Bleeds - affects vocals slightly
Treble roll off - lacks sparkle and airyness in top end
Not wide soundstage - sounds congested, all in one location
TRN TA2 - 1DD + 2BAs [knowles]

Disclaimer: Thank you and kudos to TRN and Sir Larry Fulton for arranging this review unit, based on own observation with no affiliation nor obligation.

Packaging / Presentation

IEM is well built in resin and looks good, 0.78mm 2pin TFZ raised connector preferred, accessories is adequate, 3.5to6.3mm adapter, black metal round casing, norm TRN cable, 7 pairs silicon and 1 foam tips.

Equipment used :
iMac - Linux - RPI4 8GB - Volumio Tidal Connect - Topping DX3PRO - L30
iMac - Linux - RPI4 8GB - Volumio Tidal Connect - ifi Zen Dac v2.0 - Xduoo TA05 Tube Amp
Sony walkman A55 3.5mm SE / Fiio M9 DAP 3.5mm SE, 2.5mm Bal
LG G7+ / Samsung Note8 [UAPP / Tidal] 3.5mm SE, Samsung Dongle, X1, CXpro

Tonality is warm and bassy with good mid bass and little sub bass rumble. Bass Quantity over quality, ie. can be better, when especially play back a very Bassy and Busy instruments track, mid bass bleeds occur.

Timbre is quite natural sounding with a tint of metallic, very slightly. Male / Female vocals presentation is acceptable in most tracks, except when tracks that are heavy in bass [bleeding can be heard] and multiple instruments in the mix. [seperation not the best distinctively, clustered all in a location feel].

Soundstage is not wide, width is more than height and depth, treble roll off somehow affects the sparkle and airyness.

Conclusion

For those that are more into mid vocals, the 2 knowles BA have rightfully and justifiable done their functionability to a good degree. However, the 1DD used 8mm CNT and tuned for mid bass, has indirectly caused a little mid bass bleed, when play back bassy tracks. And treble roll off takes away the little more fun and pleasure to more spacious airyness in the top end.

New Head-Fier
KZ ZEX - 1DD + 1Electrostatic Hybrid
Pros: Balanced Sounding tuning in Bass, Mids and Treble, pleasant V-shaped, not sibilant at all.
IEM egornomic shaped and decent stock tips and cable at price point
Fit and isolation is good for my ears - normal average size
Cons: Tonal and Timbre not the most natural as compared eg. bl03
Sound stage can be wider 3D holographic and top end more sparkling and air eg. , slight nitpick
Not the most resolving and resolution revealing when compared eg. Knowles / Sonion BA [against Electrostatic]
Disclaimer : Thank you and kudos to KZ for sending a sample review unit, no affiliation nor obligation hereby, all based on individual observation and hearing impressions.

Presentation / Packaging

This is a budget set from KZ, Model is ZEX at USD$22. Inside small box comes with 4 sets of white silicon tips, soft and comfy, and 1 set foam tips, and a new KZ flat cable of decent thickness in 2pin 0.75mm and other end L-shaped SE 3.5mm.

Music Tracks
Some of test tracks -

Aha - Hunting High and Low
Camomile - Fields of Gold
Chicago - You are the Inspiration
Depeche Mode - Strange Love
Eagles - Hotel California
Ed Sheeran - I Don't Care
Fleetwood Mac - Big Love
Glass Tiger - Thin Red Line
Listening Test done with stock cable and tips provided.

Sound Impression

Timbre / Tonality - a tad off natural timbre compared eg. bl03, tonality is good balanced, well tuned pleasant V shaped in all 3 departments - bass, mids and treble.

Bass / Mids / Treble - Low sub bass present is tuned better than mid bass, in terms of rumble, strike and actual hit of drums heard. Quantity and Quality especially, can be improved further. For Male / Female Vocals - both are tuned pretty well, clear and clean, concise voice without much nasal, forward sounding not recessed, but not in best leading class yet. Treble high of instruments seperation are good, not exceptional, especially in busy tracks. More wider soundstage is preferred and thus air and sparkle will be better.

Conclusion

A very well tuned budget set with creativity and innovation to incorporate a Electrostatic with Dynamic Driver Combo set. Good consideration for listeners shy of bright sibilant treble high sensitive ears. Good sufficient Bass quantity and quality and Mids not recessed/veiled/nasal.

TRN VX PRO 1 DD + 8 BAs
Pros: Clarity and resolution
Forward sounding
Bright but not sibilant
Cons: A little metallic - nasal
Instruments Seperation can be better
Soundstage average
TRN VX PRO 1DD + 8BAs IEM

Disclaimer: Thank you and kudos to TRN and Sir Larry Fulton for arranging this review unit, based on own observation with no affiliation nor obligation.

Packaging / Presentation - Above Average

IEM is well built in metal alloy, 0.78mm 2pin TFZ raised connector preferred, accessories is adequate, 3.5to6.3mm adapter, black metal round casing, norm TRN cable, 7 pairs silicon and 1 foam tips.

Equipment used : iMac - RPI4 Volumio Tidal Connect - Topping DX3PRO - L30 / ifi Zen Dac - Xduoo TA05 Tube Amp
Sony A55 / Fiio M9 DAP / LG G7+ / Samsung Note8 [UAPP / Tidal]

Music Tracks used - variety of pop, jazz, country, instrumentals, audiophile male/female, chinese//cantonese favourites.

Sound Impression

Timbre / Tonality - a little metallic, bright but not sibilant, forward sounding not recessed, good clarity and resolution, but not the best 'natural open SS'.

Bass / Mids / Treble - Enough quality / quantity bass heard, slam and strike is felt, decay not the best. Speed normal but not muddy. Male / Female vocals are alright, clear clean but a little nasal. Instruments treble strings are the most clearly heard, while as when the rest mixed together, stayed in background sounds thin and far, the seperation is average, can be better IMO. Soundstage is normal not the wide airy sparkling which is much more preferred.

Better with neutral transparent source than warm which makes sound congested, best with quad dac, open up and more lively.

Is the TRN VX PRO an upgrade to the little brother TRN V90S ?

In term of clarity and resolution, it is better. Weight Tone is much better. It sounds much fuller and more satisfying.
