Another limited edition A900

I guess thats why patience is a virtue. I need to just listen to those A700s when they get there and decide if I want to move up the AT line.

I am looking at the freq response...i do not mind the 3 dB less in bass and midrange than L3k, L3k is pretty bloomy in that area. That suckout happens to be only slightly above 250 hz, which is one of the bars on my MP3 player's EQ, so I can make some adjustments for that. You know, after I send my K340 and HD590 on the road I might give this thing a shot.

My interpretation vs regular A900:

Its not 100% accurate. I used the graph from here, using the HD650 graphs from both sites to calibrate it.

Maybe it isn't so different from a regular A900?

Hm, nice work. That is interesting.

Well looking like that, it has potential if it sounds much like L3K. Can I get this with a mini-plug and 1 meter cable?
I am kind of afraid these might be a bit too big for cafe use >.< But the sound is so close to L3K this might be a very tasty can.

I seriously doubt it will sound like the L3000 at all. The A900 LTD sounded exactly the same as the A900, I have previously owned them at the same time and directly compared them. And the new A950LTD is probably more or less the same as well, I have not seen any concrete reviews of it, or any direct comparison to other A900s.

AT has simply figured out that if they release a visually redesigned A900, make it a limited edition, and crank up the price to 11, people rave after it, and go on to claim "ohhh, the recession in the midrange is reduced a bit on this one and the bass is a touch more tuneful and the treble has that extra sparkle I was missing in the original".

Well. You know. Metal finish makes things sparkle.

Ill get my 900ti today or tomorrow. Having owned the A900LTD, L3000 and W5000 each for months ill see how they compare.

The graphs of that website are to be taken with a big grain of salt, something in the way he measures leaves a signature on ALL headphones that makes them look similar until 1-2khz, i mentioned this before in a W5000 thread were this graphs appeared.
The biggest hint that it wont sound like the L3000 is the dip between 200 & 300 hz, even it's small, thats a critical spot and i hate a fr-dip at that place.
Makes me actually considering selling these unopened.

The reviewer on that website (and other bloggers + reviewers on amazon.co.jp) all mention the even, slightly warm but excellent balance of these headphones and suggest them for classic as well as pop. Classic was hardly listenable with the A900LTD but also surely not something i want to listen all day with the L3000.

Looking forward to your impressions. They will take a few hours to develop I am sure, probably at least 200 hours.

Well one thing is sure, they have nada in common with the L3000, not even closely. If youre looking for something _remotely_ similar to the L3000s freq. responce (and only that!), consider the ESW9. These are some great little warm but transparent and musical sounding cans.

Back to the topic: Take the W5000 at around 70000 Yen Street, marry it with the A900 at around 15000 Yen street and out comes the A900Ti at 37000 Yen street and it sounds pretty much like a mix of the both with an overall audio quality closely related to the price, both meet somewhere in the middle. I think that sums it up perfectly for now.

Just out of interest, how much do you lot expect to pay for a pair for standard AT-A900's?

In the UK they are £200 which is ~$402. From what has been said on this thread, it comes across as a huge price difference just for living in the UK.

The Ti's look great btw.

audiocubes sells the regular a900 for $180 + ship, iirc.

My used pair was $51, and came with a broken wing, worn out earpads, and a tweaked 1/8" plug (and no 1/4" adapter).

With some further hours of listening there's really not much more to write.
Its a nice headphone but not spectacular anywhere (coming from W5000, L3000). It also doesnt have the character the A900 brings to the table (though that can get annoying quickly), nor the W5000s.

Bass? Less than A900, more than W5000. Its Tight enough unamped and shows good texture on the recording. Doesnt reach or bloat into the midrange.

Mids: Lacks lower mids fullness just like the original A900 or the W5000. Its no L3000.

Highs: Clearer than the original A900, not as resolving as the W5000.

Overall it has a nice transparency and black background.

I personally think AT wants to catch D2000 buyers with that headphone. When comparing their price and soundsignature it looks obvious to me.
I also had the D2000 but i didnt like the way vocals sounded on them, too tiny compared to the rest thats going on in the soundstage. The 900Ti does that aspect better.
