Audio Technica ATH-PRO700MK2 review - Take two subwoofers...straight to the head.

If you have a zo 2 on red i find that without my LOD like 50% of my dubstep @256kbs and under distorts. Fiio L3 is a must have with a zo if you want the most out of it. Havn't tried the e17 and i wish i had one but i find that my pro700mk2s are almost unlistenable without either a zo or heavy equing in an app i have.

Surly there are a few people here that have both devices and might have the MK2s as well....?

@Joshii I have the Fiio L9 I can use with the zo but will probably buy that after the e9 as I really want a desktop amp.

Hi Joshii, I was just wondering if you have both versions of the PRO700MK2? :)

You got that right he already has me planning to buy one. :) Been looking for headphones with a good amount of Bass for a little while now but mostly sticking to the lower end. I have ordered some Sony XB500s (was going to buy the XB1000 but decided not to due to price) the only amp I own right now is the e11 which I use with a LOD. I know in terms of quality the JVC headphones I am about to mention are not perfect but for thick hard hitting bass the JVC Extreme Explosive over the ear cans have been my favorite dubstep headphones so far. I keep some rolled up paper towel under the lip of the ear cup to give it more depth and they rumble nicely though they are definitely a bass only kind of headphone as the highs and mids are hidden behind that veil that sometimes goes with headphones where the bass is so prominent. With the amp EQ on 2 and high gain with bass boost turned on as well they are impressive for their price. I have a set of Sennheiser 515s which sound nice but they don't have the type of Bass you can really feel and I am fine with that for regular music but dubstep does demand a bit more kick. Other than that I have a set of PortaPros. Don't really care for earbuds but when I use them I go with the J3's I have a few more headphones and earbuds that I would rather not mention due to them being really crappy.

Out of curiosity, what are your current setups (headphones & amps)? :)

If you're a huge basshead, then just go with the ZO2.3. You really won't be disappointed. WakiDabeast has explained how it works pretty eloquently. Sounds like a damn fine advert, huh?

sorry i don't just the aniversary, all i know is the driver is new and has only put a detailed bass and made the trebles not lag behind

Oh sorry, does that mean you only have the ANV edition?

I've only auditioned the ANV edition once, and found the sound to be a bit tighter with less punch in the bass. I would have gotten them if the sound signature was not tweaked in any way with a lower pricetag. They look absolutely beautiful. The normal PRO700MK2s look way too dull in comparison.

ye only the aniversaary, and obviously it will sound like that if you test it at a store, mine needed like 100 hours burn in until i was happy wit the bass

I believe the ANV model I auditioned has been pretty well burned-in. It's a headphone specialist shop, and they stock a wide variety of cans. In any case, I tested (A/B) both the ANV and stock model in the store.

how was the difference, lol I put my Pro700mkII money in a pair of Miles Davis Tribute headphones XD..I decided to wait out to hear the m-100, because the m-80 sounds awesome with the Z02 ^^

I found the stock PRO700MK2 darker in its overall presentation, with slightly more punch. Still, the ANV version is way prettier - you'll really want to be listening to these cans when you're out and about. They are sure to turn heads.

I'm also eagerly awaiting the M-100 - it looks like it's going to be a big hit on Head-Fi. :)

yeah, but I mean by the sounds of it it seems like the ANV version is a slightly cleaned up version over the normal, may be a good alternative to the M-100 considering it has the looks, only difference would be the ANV would probably have more treble, but also more recessed mids

Just received My ANV editions :D

Impressions:

Sound way better than my MK1's, Just so much clearer in every way. BUT the pads really suck (to be expected) and I may try the cotton wool filling trick. The mids and highs are not as recessed and are far more detailed.

They seam to be quite a balanced headphone out of the box. I am immediately adding some 16-20k to give it more detail and sparkle which I like on most of my phones but other than that they sound great.

As for the bass, it is so much more tighter than my MK1's but not as deep or as loud, however I have the XB700 earpads on my MK1's and would expect when I transfer them over to the ANV they will fill in the depth and make for a much better experience.

For anyone wanting more deep bass with increased soundstage comfort and isolation I would highly recommend putting the XB pads on it. They are a huge difference with the biggest improvement being the movement of air/subwoofer effect since they seam to extend the freq response way way down. Bare in mind I have hot melt glued them on the MK1's (I was careful not to get any glue on the pads themselves.

I am on holidays at he moment so have no way of transferring the pads onto the ANV atm unfortunately.

I'm in love already!!! :D

EDIT:

I Just went to a mates to swap the pads over and it really is a huge diference. The title suggests that these headphones alone are like having subwoofers strapped to your head but when compared to having the XB pads on them the stock phones are not like that at all. It literally massages my ears on some tracks :D

Oh and IMO they look badass!!

As you can see the pads squash down a lot when they are worn.

Haha, nice. That's an interesting combination. I agree that the stock pads are probably the worst feature, combined with the clamping forces the whole thing is uncomfortable on my glasses.
