Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone

I sure hope not...cause i am not a fan of the earcup design. I think the dt1880 is in the works...maybe they are saving the best for last. Otherwise skipping the number is a little convolute.

An 1880 will probably be redundant if the 1990 is already properly damped.
I think that's the reason why there wasn't a T80.

I wonder how the bass quality of this one is. Hopefully (much) better than the DT990 Pro 250 Ohm's which I find to have a rather muddy and slow low-end.

That's what set it apart from the 880 line. If they reign in the control and speed, it may as well just be the 1880 Pro instead. People buy the 990 Pro for the extra boost in bass and liveliness over the 880. I hope they have some added sprinkles of magic down low for the 1990 to set it apart once again.

If the jump from 990 to 1990 is as good as the jump from 770 to 1770, these will be a very successful headphone.  The 1770 is a killer headphone all things considered (sound, build, price, etc).  An open equivalent could put Beyer back on the map (they've been a little quiet lately IMHO).

I have a local Beyer dealer down here who gets in all the new headphones and has regular meets.  I'm sure the LA folks will get a chance to hear these soon enough... right, @TSAVJason?

Well, sure, but I for example find the DT990 Pro to be too muddy in the lower registsrs and would take the 770 Pro over it any day as its bass is audibly tighter, better controlled and better defined. If a headphone has a bass boost or v-shape, I want control and quality instead of sloppiness.

1990 is soooooo last century.... afraid these headphones are outdated before they're even on the market.

There's a trend towards bassy headphones, which a new 880 doesn't fit.
Raise the bass to 'modern' levels, soften the treble to make it forgiving and that's not a super DT880 anymore.

HD800 is the headphone for those who love DT880's sound signature.
(And it seems Beyer is still not able to match its technical capabilities)

So it's just an open version of the 1770?

A new pro headphone from Beyerdynamic; colour me interested.

pro? Do u mean that someone works with sound using 1770 or will use 1990? Or pro means just for tracking and critical listening and not for post-production? I'm asking because i cant say that 1770 is a "pro" model as it has club-sound signature and cant be used in any of serious studio. Whats the point of 250hz drop and huge 4khz drop? DT1770 = Takstar pro 80 x5 in price?

Haven't heard the dt1770 but as an owner of the dt770, when properly driven (very important) and from a decent source, the dt770 get bass and drums (in the dynamic sense) like no other headphone I've heard. I cannot state how important it is to drive the 770s properly; from a weak amp they sound thin and bass heavy. From a stong amp they have huge dynamics and convey, to me, an accurate rendition of the low frequency content of the music.

The dt770 are universally used as in-studio monitoring headphones due to their closed nature, but have a very wide sound stage so could be used as a mixing/mastering headphone as well.

I would assume the dt1770 inherit the dt770s attributes and the dt1990 build on them for mixing/mastering.
