Earbuds Round-Up

Smabat has a new TWS apparently.

Called the S2.

Case looks nice, but not sure if the ergonomics will work, it looks like it might pivot out of the ears?
Also the 3 kHz Smabat house spike might still be there haha.

I know people have had a falling out with the recent Smabat earbuds for their tuning (or lack thereof) in the 3k region. I visited their English website to see what was going on with their crowdfunding of their wireless buds, what they are now calling the S2 Pro. Looks like they've made some design changes in their latest iteration (3rd update version) vs earlier versions. The 2 new major changes are beryllium driver (only for crowdfunding purchasers) and switch from Realtek to Qualcomm 3040AD chip. So Bluetooth 5.2 with APTX(AD) lossless (as long as your source has the same codec). According to their latest S2 Pro info, the beryllium driver is supposed to provide "more detailed non-sharp treble".

Anyway, for those interested there's more info (than the 2 pictures I posted) at their English crowdfunding product page:

how are these better than mx500 shell in terms of bass tuning?
I am only a beginner, but i think that shells with a big hole are better for bass tuning. You can play more with the air. Like NSC shell or this:

The mentioned wooden shell adds some warmth to the sound indeed, but i can better tune the bass is mx500 shell - only my personal opinion. You can consider to look at qkz mdr earbud, and use the shell. It is great for bass tuning. It has holes on the side, and also "rivet", and you can play with air a lot.

Thank you for getting this out there. :)

This could be great news for all (not just those interested in TWS) because if they got the message and are moving back to years gone by for their tuning, I think they could become a great name again (like they were during, and before the ST10S and M2s Pro era). I still listen to those with fond memories, and while those are a bit sharp/aggressive as well, they are VERY listenable compared to the crap they have been putting out for the last couple of years or so.

I think that any "qualtiy" shell can be made to sound how you want it to sound (within reason), and tuning plays a VERY pivotable role, but I also think that driver synergy to the shell in question (or driver matching, if you will) is probably the first step in getting the desired sound you are looking for.

I have three (DIY) sets of buds that are all very bassy (for buds), and they all use different shells, but they also all use different drivers in those shells. :) Just my lowly $.02 here.

i am someone who says this about the ff3s. its still good, but the original is a little bit tighter and less wooly when it comes to electronic music. the original can give the feeling of a good techno sub in an illegal underground club. the ff3s on the otherside is a little less spectacular (for an earbud) let alone the ff5, which in my opion excells in rock and the likes.
Thank you.

So many people recommend the Yinman's, so I'll go with that one and LBBS or FF3 (I haven't decided yet). Apparently, the FF3 and Yinman are both bassy earbuds, but the FF3 offers a bit more rumble while the latter is all-around better, so I'm leaning towards the LBBS as a second earbud.

Thank you all for your help! You guys are incredibly helpful.

I might buy the FF5 later as well, but in a few months; mostly because it looks very well-built and I want to own a Fiio earbud for that reason alone.

Unfortunately, I do not recommend it, even if I like Smabat. The problem is that all the drivers are choked, resulting in bad sound (already discussed this)

I don't know if they are better than MX500 shells for bass tuning, just mentioned that the three tuning holes allow you to tune the bass by controlling the airflow.
The main advantage of the bell shape is that it allows to wear them cable up while pointing the driver towards the ear canal, which greatly affects SQ.

Of course, the driver is still the most important part - tuning a crappy driver won't result in a good sound.

Hello fellow earbud lovers! This is my 1st post on Head-Fi :)

I've been enjoying Yincrow X6s for the past 3 years or so and since that I've been on a hunt for an earbud that's better than X6 yet has that smoother/warmer/mid-range dense tonality. I had Yincrow Calf for about a year but sold them becuase they turned out to be too bright with all my sources that I had at hand (Fiio BTR5 2021 and iPod Classic 5th Gen)

Main question is: did anybody here bought Yincrow Rhino maybe? Or should I go the DIY route? If so, then please recommend me a decent 15.4mm drivers that have potential to gimme that warm, intense mids and good bass withouth harsh treble :) I'd like to spend ~$80 in parts total in case of building my own earbud. Thanks!

*edit: currently I own Fiio BTR7 which is a more musical source than BTR5 which was also a bit bright and intense. I'm in the process of building custom 5.5th Gen iPod Classic which I'm planning to use a lot too. So earbuds I'd get or build would need to have decent synergy with those devices

LBBS is a huge step up from Yincrow X6, while retaining the same character.
Get it before it's sold out: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001464323686.html
Make sure you don't buy the cheaper "Black with Mic" version - it's LBS, not LBBS.

I received both the Faael Iris 2.0 and Iris Ancestor today(the last of my branded buys for now), and if anyone was wondering about either, well they're both good. From my few hour listens on both, they sound good. I can see why they were highly ranked on the earbuds doc. I gotta find the link to it.

Edit: Here it is:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YNuslYM4CrhMPrOLofzTm4ei7HEfP8AI1zxswrMw2ho/htmlview?pli=1#

The 2.0 reminds me of the Yincrow x6(clear but has some oomph to it)and the Ancestor reminds me of the Qigom 32ohm diy(nice and warm with some very nice bass).

If anyone is looking for a few dollar branded flat then I don't think you can go wrong with either.

I was planning to try buying these, since they are not too expensive and I'd like to support their innovation. Plus the drivers are small, so if I don't like them I can probably pass them off to my wife.

I don't have a Paypal account though, and I'm not sure I want to make one just to buy this.

I've had a Paypal account for a long time since I used to buy stuff on ebay, but not much anymore. At least Paypal doesn't spam you with emails or anything and it's been safe to use so far. If you do decide to buy, then you'll need to create 2 accounts, one for Smabat and one for Paypal.
