iFi Audio nano iDSD Black Label (TOUR details - PAGE 12 / TOUR participants - page 26 post #386)

As I say its not better than the stack but pretty darned close. I am going to do some more listening tomorrow and see what that yields. I haven't tried the iDSD by itself against the Nano but I will do that also tomorrow.

Close is something I'd expect, but I probably wouldn't expect the iDSD Nano to beat the whole stack that includes the iDSD Micro BL :smile_phones:

What I was referring to was swapping the iDSD in the stack with the Nano, not the stack vs the Nano.

Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately a flashing red led when off isn't listed as a possibility in that list. Based on my experience so far it seems to mean 'device switched off and not charging'. It is easy to replicate if I just turn the device on and connect it to either my PC or phone and then turn it off.
If I connect it switched off it shows blue for charging and then nothing when charged as expected.
My device is operating fine so I don't think it is defective. Just looking for confirmation of what the flashing red led when off actually means.

I have also noticed that the led sometimes gets stuck on Majenta after playing MQA. So it doesn't change back to white when then playing cd quality.
I assume this is just a quirk of the firmware and will be fixed in the next release.

On a side note I prefered the different colours for different sampling fequencies as listed in the instructions to just white for all PCM as with the latest firmaware. Not a big deal but I hope it goes back to the original design.

But as for the device its self, I think it is amazing! Especially for the price!

Yup. I bet the same too but will compare the nano with micro BL when it arrives

For light colours, have you updated the firmware? Isnt flashing red low battery, drawing power (but not charging) from usb?

But that is when the device is switched on, what about when the device is switched off? My battery is not discharged either.
I'm on Firmware: 5.3C RC2 from the 27th of November.

Can I assume if you turn on your device, then connect it and then turn it off you do not see a flashing red led then? On the above firmware.

Had a few weeks to spend with the nano, very impressed so far. Very good addition to my stable of portable amp/dacs: Mojo, DFR, Centrance massdrop edition.

Holds its own against the Mojo. A bit more diffuse and spacious sound compared to Mojo, its a different presentation. I can't say its any worse, maybe it loses on a tad bit of detail.

IEmatch its a great feature for my Andros and Spartan IV. Mojo makes the Andros sound a tad too warm. I do prefer the Mojo with the Spartan's though.

On PC if I have it set as default audio device and then use Tidal or JRiver with excusive mode it seems to get stuck after I close the programme. For example... play songs in Tidal, close Tidal, open Youtube I get no sound. I have to change to another default device and then back again to get sound.

We have found that the exclusive App must be closed (hard close, not send to background) to release the Audio device, a playback stop is not sufficient.

However once the App is closed the Audio device is reliably released. This may be down to specific issues within Windows, outside our control.

Please open a ticket with our support team for help.

When connected to my S8 I can plug the Nano in turned on or off and it seems to make no difference.

It will make a difference to battery life. If you plug in turned off, the iDSD nano BL will both attempt to charge its battery from the phone (drawing down the phone battery) and will use power from the phone for operation.

But if I turn the Nano off while still connected I get a red flashing LED - not really a problem but I don't know what this means.

It means you attempted to set the unit to off (and thus to force charging) when attached in battery mode. It is there to warn you that what you just did is not recommended.

Great response! thank you, that explains everything clearly!
As I said these weren't causing me any real issues but were more like observations that I was curious about. Good to know that my device is working as intended.

Thanks again.
